Ah, I see. Many folks tend to think they know what scripture says (including those people who reject the Word of God). Much of that comes from reading about scripture, rather than actually reading them.

Interesting. I heard a geologist say this is likely a new break. Miles O'Brian just said no reports of tsunami activity at this time.

11 feet is still a killer though. (Although I imagine all the low areas are already destroyed and perhaps uninhabited). Some guy on TV said a 7.5 in this area many many years ago generated a tsunami that killed 400.

If there was a tsunami from this quake, it has hit Sumatra already. Not debateable.

Correct.

Cocos Island

Only two of the islands are inhabited - Home Island where the majority of the indigenous Cocos Malay people reside and West Island which houses most of the mainly Australian workers on contract to various government departments. The total population of the two islands is just 600 people.

Few groups in the world today are as little known or understood as the Cocos Malay inhabitants of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Theirs has been a world sealed off from the outsider by geography, history, politics and language. Few outsiders have lived among them and very little has been recorded of their cultural practices and tradition. This tiny society has been held together for eight generations by its very isolation, shared economic endeavor, strong family loyalty, a deep commitment to Islam and a unique version of the old "Trading Malay" language of the East Indies.

forget the others

What others? The fives and sixes? I would like to see a chart of energy release logarithmic vertical scale versus the lunar cycle as a time base, but I am too lazy to make up the chart myself.

Expert on CNN said he thinks the thrust of this quake would be to the south.....

Christmas Island and the Coco's Island seem to be at risk if he is right.

Actually, they would be a day ahead of us (here in the States) The IDL is the cut-off point... it is where a new day starts. If you cross it from West to East (ie, going from Japan to Seattle) you loose a day. The other direction however, you gain a day.

Nope! 'Tis the other way around. I know because I lost a birthday once (no, didn't really miss it that much) flying to Japan from SFO. I got a day back on the return trip, but the birthday was lost forever.

"What is on Cocos Island?"

Not a lot. The population is a 500 - 1000 with a few small, low rise resorts. The Islands are a territory of Australia.

That was the second though in my mind on the news. The first was the full moon window. I don't believe we have a god that waits for us to screw up and sends thunderbolts in retribution or as communication. But, we do get messages from our environment all the time if we choose to pay attention.

The fact that humanity is not extinct, attests to the fact that God is not only very patient and forgiving, he also has a sense of humor. History has also shown to those who are paying attention, that God's patience, does have it's limits.

We need to understand that and mend our ways, before we find ourselves in the position of a roach looking up to see a foot, just before being squashed.
