Gov. Bush: I can't help Terri Schiavo
CNN ^ | March 27, 2005

Posted on 03/27/2005 11:39:47 AM PST by El_Doctor

Rick Barnard of Morris, Illinois, wass arrested Sunday after trying to bring Terri Schiavo Easter communion. per cnn... ALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said on Sunday there is nothing else he can do to save Terri Schiavo's life. "I cannot violate a court order," Bush said after returning to the Governor's Mansion from Easter Sunday church services. "I don't have powers from the United States Constitution or -- for that matter from the Florida Constitution -- that would allow me to intervene after a decision has been made." To Terri Schiavo's parents -- who have said Bush should do more to help their daughter -- the governor said: "I can't. I'd love to, but I can't." The governor has been under public pressure from Bob and Mary Schindler, parents of the 41-year-old brain-damaged woman, and many religious groups to intervene further in the case. On Thursday, a Florida state judge denied a petition by Gov. Bush and the state Department of Children and Families to take Schiavo into state custody. (Full story) The Florida Supreme Court dismissed on Saturday -- for the second time in a week -- an emergency petition by the Schindlers to have their daughter's feeding tube reconnected. "I'm sad that she's in the situation that she's in," Bush said, commenting publicly on the case for the first time since Thursday. "I feel bad for her family. My heart goes out to the Schindlers and, for that matter, to [her husband] Michael [Schiavo]," Bush said. "This has not been an easy thing for any, any member of the family. But most particularly for Terri Schiavo."

Certainly he has thought about this very deeply not to mention weighing his own political career. For now on I will pay more attention to the judicial election over the executive election. After all, they are so much more powerful. The latter is nothing but a mere figure head. We will see how this all plays out. I am sure more info will come out in the future. This is my last post to you. Keep up the fight though (terri's fight that is). May God Bless her.

Yes...I believe the judges sneak through in elections because the voters are dazzled by the Executive.

Though I don't believe the Executive is a figurehead (for example Bush has been an extremely powerful Commander in Chief), the voters need to pay more attention to the judicial system and not just leave it in the hands of their leaders to clean up. Voting right is a powerful step. Have a great day.

Oh, my Lord.

May God return in kind to each that stood by and did nothing from then to and through her death, what she has gone through, each in accordance to what they allowed or did. Amen

Doctors, cops, courts, Bush. Filth. Filth. Filth.

I really have to wonder now if the Bush family was ever prolife. It is said that Barbara Bush is pro-abortion. The President's grandfather supplied arms for the Germans.
Was their prolife stance just a facade to get the Bush Boys elected?

I really question now if I will ever again vote for a member of this clan.

Jeb's daughter has a drug problem. If she overdosed and put herself in the same condition Terri is in, would Jeb pull the plug? Would he let his own girl die of dehydration and starvation?

The executive commands law enforcement, not the judge.Yeah, there's the precedent we ought to be worried about. Frickin' mullahs.

This is a bad one. This is a very bad one. Are people talking about it around you? All I hear is silence, but the news is blabbing non-stop. This one cuts too deep. This one hurts too bad. I can type about it. But I can't talk about it. I can't hardly watch it on TV or I want to fight. This one is bad. This one is tearing us apart.

There is more to it than just appointing and electing better judges.

1) We need to change laws that allow them to do things like they are doing in Florida.

2) We need to make the legislatures restrict them from ruling on areas of law where they have no business, as is authorized in the Constitution, but the Congress will not do because they don't want to make waves.

3) We need to change laws and constitutions to prevent them finding "emanations and penumbras', iow, to stop them making judgements based on things that are not there, and ignoring or redefining the plain meaning of things that ARE there.

4) We need to produce and distribute a list of rogue judges that we must go to any lengths necessary to remove from office.

5) We need to begin high-level impeachment proceedings against SCOTUS justices, and other high judges who have clearly violated their oaths to the detriment of the country.

6) In addition to all of that we need to appoint/elect more conservative, trustworthy jurists, but we must remember that we can never predict what the exercise of power will do to a person.

Nice screen name, WKU. I was in the Class of '98.

If I believed for a moment there was a chance that there was anything left of Terri in that husk, I'd side with her supporters in a moment, but it's clear that her skull is full of CSF and not grey matter.

How is this "clear"? THe woman speaks and recognizes her family, the only one I seriously wonder has any grey matter left is you.

How did you come to your conclusion?

There was a day when it would be damning to say that a man was weak, and yet Gov. Bush is announcing his own weakness to the world. He can call it anything he likes -- "I don't have the power" or "I'm just following orders" -- but it still amounts to weakness.

Someone should give him some water to wash his hands and get all of this muck off of his soft weak hands.

I did...and I say again, grow a spine, newbie.

Quit hiding behind your family's tragic past and fight your own battles. If you want folks here at FReep to take you seriously, you have to stand on your own two feet, and take the lumps you have coming...God knows I have.

So I reiterate...grow a spine. If your shorts are in a knot over WKUHilltopper's very valid comment (and he's not the only one who's posted such observations over the last few weeks), then I hate to see how you're gonna react when things get really bad in this country in the near future.

Life is offensive, and we don't pull punches here at FReep. If you're so easily offended, maybe the Sponge Bob website is more your speed.

I have fought my own battles you stooge----I ended up with two dead legs and half blind because some idiot in the Navy didn't do his job. I know a helluva lot more than you will ever know about pain and what a battle REALLY is. You should hope to Christ you NEVER have to deal with what a lot of others have. You think life is offensive---I got that S**T in spades.

You wanna talk about my family's tragic past? I grew up with waking in the middle of the night to the screams of the few family members that survived the Death Camps--- I spent my entire adult life serving this country so that S**T wouldn't happen again. So I really don't need any advise or lessons from some coddled fool like yourself.

I have seen close up and for real what has happened in this country and do not need some snot-nosed cretin to tell me what it is and where this country is going.

As for where I belong: You belong where other idiots belong: At DU.

You "buddy" made a stupid remark--one that wasn't called for and is NOT needed here at FR. He doesn't even have the guts to fight his own battles. but have a stnad in do it for him.

Screw off!

Oh, another one of those Idaho tough guys, huh?

There was no call for you to adopt the tone of voice you did and speak to a fellow FReeper in such a manner.

SF71 took umbrage at a comment which he felt was over the top and compared two very dis-similar situations: Nazi Holacaust and the Terri Schiavo case; most right thinking people would agree, there is no similarity, other than an innocent life is being taken away, but the Nazis were not the only purveyors of that type of action.

I am not even going to start listing the comparisons because that is history and an inellect like you must already know, since you apparently know how SF 71 should react.

Hilltopper attempted to reconcile his point and explain it, you came out with "Mouth Blazing" in full charge mode, without checking the situation and it has made you look the loud-mouth fool.

Next time let you "scouts" report the situation back yo you,BEFORE you charge in without sabers, General Custer.

I don't understand why FReeperes attack other FReepers, unless there is a clear pattern of anti-American thoughtbeing spewed, and any comparison of America to the Nazis bugs me too.

Hilltopper, your explanation was well-done and well thought out, the way REAL CONSERVATIVES are supposed to address each other, teach you fellow WKU Alum how, please, it will make for a much better site.

On another note: advocating lawlessness makes us no better than the DUmmies, and I question the "Conservative credentials" of anyone who does so.

It is especially ridiculous to go against those we have supported for failing in this single incident, proper change takes time.

What is happening to Terri is a disgrace but the onus is on the judiciary, her husband and his lawyers, and if you are Christian then you have to trust in God's justice, and the fact that maybe GOD wants us to use Terri's MURDER as a Means for a change.

The "Culture of Death" is strong, but this is scaring them. We, Conservatives, have to stay united and strong and go after the REAL purveyors of the DEATH of Innocents, NOT those who have tried to help and are probably just as frustrated at being bound by the law. Stand by your guns and recognize that the enemy is on the LEFT, not within, except those moles and Trolls that want to see FR and the Conservatives collapse.
