No compelling reason to kill Terri Schiavo
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | March 27,2005 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 03/27/2005 2:37:03 AM PST by mal

A couple of decades back, north of the border, it was discovered that some overzealous types in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police had been surreptitiously burning down the barns of Quebec separatists. The prime minister, Pierre Trudeau, shrugged off the controversy and blithely remarked that, if people were so upset by the Mounties illegally burning down barns, perhaps he'd make the burning of barns by Mounties legal. As the columnist George Jonas commented

Take a look if you would at this LA Times article ( will need to register or use Bugmenot) and see what you think as to how much revisionism is being done.

Looks like good marks for Gov Jeb Bush in the article.

Best I can tell, the LA Times reported it pretty accurately, which is awfully unusual. This has always been more of a fight between Michael and the father of Terri than about her wishes.

That's how I feel about the Terri Schiavo case. I'm neither a Floridian nor a lawyer, and, for all I know, it may be legal under Florida law for the state to order her to be starved to death. But it is still wrong.

It matters not whether Steyn uses simple words or complex, he is the master of getting to the heart of the matter.

"If she feels nothing -- if there's no there there -- she has no misery to be put out of."

It is not her misery from which those in favor of her death wish to be released.

Mrs. Schiavo has been in her present condition for 15 years. Whoever she once was, this is who she is now -- and, after a decade and a half, there is no compelling reason to kill her. Any legal system with a decent respect for the status quo -- something too many American judges are increasingly disdainful of -- would recognize that her present life, in all its limitations, is now a well-established fact, and it is the most grotesque judicial overreaching for any court at this late stage to decide enough is enough. It would be one thing had a doctor decided to reach for the morphine and ''put her out of her misery'' after a week in her diminished state; after 15 years, for the courts to treat her like a Death Row killer who's exhausted her appeals is simply vile.

Bumpity bump.

Terri is STILL ALIVE folks!! Get your Senators and Representatives, your Supreme Court, your President, to stop all this evil, repent--(metanoia, change their thinking),and give her water and food.

Lord, You healed the sick, raised the dead, and raised Yourself from the dead. You are Lord, and still building Your church. Now please hear our prayers of worship and gratitude, and keep Terri here for now that she may continue recovery enough to show our entire world that euthanasia is wrong, and that life is valuable, and that YOU are God! They'll give credit to her food and water for her recovery, but WE will know, Lord, and You WILL be glorified!!

Keep her sustained, and at peace. Give her family peace that passeth understanding. Waiting to see Your perfect will and Your perfect timing, we pray in Jesus' name,Amen.

It's time to alter Shakespeare's great line:

The first thing we do, let's kill all the judges.

"I'll accept their rulings that the law is being applied correctly rather than your opinion that it is not"

Then you will be guilty of her murder.

Truth can be known. There is moral law above nature's law. When our consciences are hardened we know longer even realize that murder is wrong and that love is always right. It is not loving to murder Terri.

God will make accountable EVERY person who encourages against the life HE gives, and who does not fight for her life. She is not terminal. She is being murdered, but you can fight against it.

BUT IT IS STILL WRONG. Bottom line, what is happening in Florida, "legal" or not, is just plain wrong, and obscene.

Michael Schiavo fits the traits of an abuser. You can even see his brothers covering up his sins with their own sins of lying, to keep us from what they know. You see the anger. You see the control. The isolation of her from light, friends, family, church, therapy. The fornication. The adultery. The lying. The greed. The put ons for appearances' sake. The lack of self-control. The scheming. And the lying to the entire world.

I believe he has been verbally abusing her often these years, if only in her ears, where others can't hear. But she can. They found injection marks on her and an insulin vial in the trash after he was with her for 20 minutes, and her blood was tested and found at "almost flat." She almost died. And she can't communicate.

The more I watch her videos, the more I see. I do see the smile, the awareness of others, the following of commands, the trying and attempting, the actual enjoying of engagement, the energy and niceness despite her situation. She does not deserve to have AMERICA PUT HER TO DEATH.

She needs to be rescued TODAY!

The only one feeling the Felos' infamous death process euphoria is George Felos. Did you see his frightening interview yesterday? I damn near vomited listening to his murderous metaphysical tripe.

There seems to be a genuine dispute about her condition -- between those on her husband's side, who say she has ''no consciousness,'' and those on her parents' side, who say she is capable of basic, childlike reactions. If the latter are correct, ending her life is an act of murder. If the former are correct, what difference does it make? If she feels nothing -- if there's no there there -- she has no misery to be put out of. That being so, why not err in favor of the non-irreversible option?

Pretty bad when Media columnists are wiser than the best in the supreme court. Worst fate of a Nation is to have no Statesmen. Sadly, in the entire Government of the United States of America, we have no Statesmen wiser than a Canadian Columnist or with more nads than a liberal Floraduh Judge. God has obviously cursed us.

Perhaps killing more of our own babies yearly than Hitler killed Jews during his glorious WWII term has a hand in it? Senior citizens had better realize that Bush just solved Social Security's longevity problem, by doing nothing.
