There is nothing more irritating than an evolving enemy with modernization of military.

wow good thing we are not outsourcing our best manufacturing capabilities to china .. that would surely be bad why they could use all that towards their military industrial complex

The thing I always see with China is that it never is wise to leave a true enemy undefeated when we are engaged ....
We should have never been so war weary after WW2 and let Chiang-kai Shek be defeated , or Tibet fall , or for the PRC to get away with Korea or Vietnam.
never.....
We need to concentrate on totally and conclusively WINNING
all wars we are called to fight , no matter what it takes.
Things never get better by leaving half finished fights.

I didn't see the way that they were doing the conversion to dollars. If it is just the normal pegged rate, then one thing to bear in mind is that $1 equivalent goes much, much further in China than it does in the U.S. or Japan. $50 billion dollars spent acquiring arms in the Chinese market might well be the equivalent of spending $250 billion in the U.S. market.

However, if the dollar-equivalent numbers are instead based on some sort of PPP-type conversion, it would clarify this a lot if that were explicated so that we could get a feel for the methodology.

Given the growth of the Chinese war machine, and the bibilical prochey regarding and army of 200 million, east of the Euphrates River wiping out a third of the earths population before being defeated, it's not too far a stretch to think we are witnessing the stage being set.

I looks like China has been watching the US Military closely – and reading our Lessons Learned papers. Instead of shrugging them off they have been taking it to heart.

This sure sounds familiar!!!

II. High Technology And "Assassin’s Mace" Weapons

In the mid-1990s former president Jiang Zemin re-popularized an ancient Chinese term, "Shashaojian," translated most frequently as "Assassin’s Mace," which is to say "silver bullet" weapons, having novel characteristics, intended to be unanticipated, and thus potentially decisive when used with surprise.[2] The intent, as has been outlined in Chinese military classics for two millennia, is to catch the adversary by surprise and defeat him before he is even aware an attack has begun.
