ANN ARBOR, Mich., March 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Former prosecutor of Jack Kevorkian, Richard Thompson, reaffirmed Thursday morning the authority of Florida Governor Jeb Bush to utilize state criminal laws to prevent the death of Terri Schiavo. Pointing to two legal memos prepared by the Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which were delivered to Governor Bush in October of 2003, Thompson again urged Bush to launch a formal criminal investigation into the facts surrounding the disability of Schiavo.

The two letters dated October 15th and 16th point to the constitutional authority of Governor Bush to order the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate violations of criminal laws. The letters cite a number of facts suggesting Terri Schiavo is a victim of domestic abuse and neglect, and may be a victim of domestic violence. Furthermore, the letters point out that officials from the Florida Department of Children and Family Services have the authority to enter the premises where Schiavo is currently being held and remove her if they believe that medical care is necessary to avert a likely risk of death or serious injury.
The October 15 letter concludes that a growing number of facts establish probable cause to "conduct a full criminal investigation of the circumstances surrounding the disability of Ms. Schiavo. To date, the facts of this case have not yet been viewed through the lens of a criminal investigation. Shamefully, the government's investigatory resources have not been brought to bear on discovering the truth in this case."
Speaking Thursday, Thompson once again urged Governor Bush to launch a formal criminal investigation and remove Terri Schiavo from the custody of her current guardian. He further indicated that the consent of Schiavo's guardian is not necessary to obtain custody of Terri. Thompson also offered the assistance of attorneys from the Thomas More Law Center to assist the Governors staff if needed.
The two legal opinions were prepared and delivered to Governor Bush in October of 2003, after Schiavo's feeding tube was removed. Bush through his aides requested the legal counsel at the time, but instead chose to work with the Florida legislature to pass emergency legislation to prevent the death of Schiavo.

God always blesses the obedient. Obedience is better than sacrifice. Afterwards if would be very possible the MASSES would "demand" he run for Prez.after the info came out - the real true chain of events.
Who wouldn't want a President that did the right thing no matter what happened to him. That shows strength - a man who protects his citizens, his love of his countrymen, his love for the constitution. It wouldn't be lip service - he would have his proof.
that was tried a few years ago - and they were told that in Florida law, the statute of limitations on attempted murder runs out in 4 years - so presumably, would abuse.
There would have to be clear and convincing evidence of present abuse - of course, I think depriving someone of food and water is the ultimate abuse - but there's several court orders to do it!

I do wish you people would stop blaming Jeb for the Judge getting the heads up. It was the hospital that the state was going to take her to - they had to be notified to get ready to treat her - instead,they called the JUDGE!

It was the hospital that was supposed to get ready to treat Terri after she was rescued from the Hospice, that went to the d*mn judge instead!. THEY are the ones that squealed - not Jebget the facts straight or STFU

This seems like a nightmare, not reality. I want to throw up. America sits by and listens as a woman dies. It's the Kitty Genovese story. In this case, however, people who have to tuned out morality hear the cries for help, have phoned the authorities to report a murder in progress, but the authorities are the ones who sit it out and don't prevent an innocent woman from slowly dying.
do you remember that the reason Terri didn't die in 2003 when they took away her food and water - was because Jeb got an emergency bill passed in the legislature - "Terri's Bill" and got the tube put back on the 6th day. (the media and all the those (you?) that are blasting him now, crucified him then for "grandstanding" and "interfering" etc.
Since then, the judge ruled the law unconstitutional. So Jeb tried to get another one thru this time. It was voted down. And because the lawyers and judge knew Jeb would likely try to save Terri this time too, they had all there legal blocks lined up and ready...wouldn't doubt they even threatened area hospitals where the state would likely take her for re-hydration - why else would that damnable hospital call and warn the judge! something fishy there... With the libs and non-thinking people, he can't win.

He doesn't seem all that bright. In addition, he's fueling this "Jeb Bush could save Terri now if he wanted too" cr*p - I wonder if it isn't to take the heat off himself...
I think a lot of us were ready to take dramatic action last weekend, but then it looked like Congress and the courts were going to rectify the injustice. By the time we realized that it was all a sham (on the part of the courts, at least), in many ways it was too late. I would still like to see mass vigils or action, if anyone has ideas.
I have been posting this ad nauseum for days to try to get thru to the "bash Jeb" crowd - if he got her, it would be only temporary, he'd be arrested, and state law would allow them to grab her back in about 3 days - so do you people want her brought back to a realization stage only to start the whole barbaric process over again?
