Schiavo Receives Communion, Last Rites

28 minutes ago U.S. National - AP

By MIKE SCHNEIDER, Associated Press Writer

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - Their hopes fading and legal options exhausted, Terri Schiavo's parents appeared quietly resigned Sunday to watching her die but could claim one Easter victory: The severely brain-damaged woman received a drop of communion wine on her tongue — her only sustenance in nine days — after her husband allowed her to receive the sacrament.

Well how gracious of him.

You are right. He did everythng he could legally. I don't fault him for obeying the law. But I will never vote for him for President. Sometimes a leader has to break the law. It's been said of Lincoln that "sometimes you have to suspend the Constitution to save the Constitution." Lincoln was a leader. Jeb Bush is a honorable bureaucrat. Nothing more.

Why are you defaming G.W. and Jeb Bush? They tried to save Terri! You should be after those members of the Florida legislature who voted against Terri and her parents.

It wouldn't be a matter of breaking the law, it would be a matter of disobeying an illegal court injunction forbidding him to enforce the law. If someone wanted to make something of it, the legislature would have to impeach/convict and if he's following the legislature's law then there's no basis for that.

No, it's simply not the "courtocrat" way. Jeb would have one out if he chose to disobey the court, and that's if there would be too little support in the legislature to remove him from office.

Why on earth do you feel the need to bite your tongue because of what JonDavid said? Are you that filled with pride for your "relationship with Christ" that you feel compelled to denigrate Catholicism?

Terri IS a practicing Catholic. She was a regular communicant prior to her demise. Catholics don't need outside "legal" advice when it comes to administering the sacraments to other Catholics. It's an act of mercy, so whether or not Michael THINKS she wanted an RC funeral or not is moot. If the community wants to give her a RC funeral, they can, with or without the body, and with or without his consent.

This is just sickening. May Michael Schiavo not know a solitary day of rest. May he never sleep without the image of Terri to haunt him the rest of his days.

Different times, different situations.

How are they different? Please explaing. And why cannot bold action be used today? You, sir, do not sound like someone I would want next to me in a foxhole? If people thougth like you back in 1775, we would still be drinking tea in the afternoon and singing God Save the Queen. This illustrates 2 problems with our movement:

1. Lack of backbone

2. Tendency to cling at abstract legalisms like a drowning man grabbing at straws

send the National Guard in or something

Legality and illegality can be abstract concepts. Jeb Bush, I am sure, has legal counsel able to justifiy virtually any action, no matter how threadbare such justification could be. From a practical matter, if he did use force to seize and rescue Terri, such a move would be broadly popular. The psychology of the American people is such that they admire the BOLD leader, even if he acts a bit outside the law, that the timid, legalistic, Carteresque leader. This explains why individuals like Jesse James are still admired in the US after all these years. The popularity of such a move would immunize Jeb from any legal repercussions or danger of losing his job.

Well, I see this morning that the Mod agrees that you are free to call me a Nazi because I disagree with you. I was sure, after being around for four years, that calling others Nazis without cause was against the FR rules..........apparently not.

It appears the only solution to your senseless, immoral over-the-top accusations are to stay as far away from you as I possibly can.

You see, son, that you have not been 'censored' at all, so you can quit whining.

Level all the insane accusations you want. You have been given privileges on this forum that others have been denied.

The collective 'legal' arguments sicken me in this case. The law above all else apparently.

Isn't that how the Taliban practices? The Sharia law is the only thing to follow so they claim. How is the Taliban's merciless treatment of so many any different than our judicial system's merciless treatment of Terri? They both claim the 'law' as their protector.

I did not say that you were a "NAZI" but a "Good" German. People who were denying or trying to deny Terri Holy Communion on Easter were acting like Nazis. The overall cruel treatment of Terri and her blood family by those powers in charge reminds of what the Nazis did in Germany. People who advocate “I am just following orders or I am just obeying the law”, and who have a direct effect or if they could affect the outcome when they know such action or actions are morally wrong are acting like “Good” Germans. . However, having said that, maybe by your latest post, you’re conscious is trying to telling you something

So let me ask you a final question, Jon.......what have you done (besides making wild accusations to active pro-lifers like me, sitting there at your computer), to be involved in saving the life of Terri, or to be involved in turning this culture around, or saving the lives of the millions of unborn babies who will be slaughtered in the coming years?

Have you been involved in protests? (I have).
Have you volunteered at your local Pregnancy Crisis center (I have).
Have you donated significant amounts of money to Right to Life causes (I have).
Have you called your Senators and Congressmen about pro-life issues including this one (I have).
Have you written letters to the editor regarding pro-life issues (I have).
Have you e-mailed your Senators and Congressmen specifically about Terri, and the importance of saving her from being murdered by the State of Florida? (I have).
Have you contacted the President, and Governor Bush about the importance of this right to life case? (I have).
Have you pleaded with Governor Bush to do anything within his power to save Terri Schiavo? (I have)
Have you prayed non-stop for Terri and her family, for the President and the Governor, and for the future of this nation as it deals with the sanctity of life? (I have).

Next time you level ugly accusations at a Freeper as you have at me, you had best have a clue that you are right, and if you're not, you should censor yourself from falsely accusing against others, and making yourself look like a fool. (I never advocated censorship in the slightest, I only suggested that what you freely said, be ignored).

You went way over the line with that idiotic "Good German" post....... but maybe it's better that the mods let it stand, so others can see how off base you are.

Now, if you haven't done anything to turn this tragedy into something positive, do so now. Call your representatives. Write letters (but avoid the Nazi accusation, or they will be useless). Get on the street corner if you wish, and try to help the President return America to having a culture of life and not death. Become active in the pro-life movement, and realize that your extremist, mindless accusations of others will hurt, and not help our cause.

And pray. Pray as you've never prayed before that God will have mercy on America, and use those of us who desperately want to restore this country to one that honors HIM, to accomplish that goal to HIS Glory alone.

Boy, I guess I hit a nerve. Also I am sure a lot of “Good” Germans said the same thing after WWII, when asked “WHY DID YOU LET IT HAPPENED”?
