After Defeats Schiavo Parents Tell Supporters Go Home
AP - Yahoo ^ | March 26, 2005 | Jane Sutton

Bob and Mary Schindler, both practicing Catholics, urged dozens of supporters gathered outside the Florida hospice where Schiavo is being cared for to go home for Easter.

"The family would request that everyone go home, be with your children, hold them close and share every moment you have with them," said Brother Paul O'Donnell, a Franciscan monk who is a spiritual adviser to the Schindlers.

It was not clear if the Schindlers had finally abandoned all legal avenues in their fight to restart their 41-year-old daughter's feeding, a cause that embroiled the Florida legislature, the U.S. Congress and President Bush.

Sure they are... But how could George W. Bush, one of those Executives you were complaining about, have ANY legal authority to order a Florida state prosecuting attorney to open a murder investigation?

Or, are you suggesting the President Bush open a Federal Murder case? I don't think that is anything remotely like a legal possibility.

The Supreme Court ruled that he had to be admitted, the Governor defied the Court's ruling (as you propose that Bush do) and Kennedy sent troops when riots broke out.

"AP News is reporting that the husband has denied Terri communion on Easter.

They don't want a priest or anyone to see what she looks like. This is really bad."

More [sad and painful details] from AP below.

Family supporters said Schiavo's breathing became increasingly labored during the day. An attorney for the Schindlers, Barbara Weller, said hospice workers began giving morphine to Schiavo to ease pain brought on by her body's failure.

Schiavo's husband, Michael, has said she would not want to be kept alive artificially. The Schindlers believe their daughter could improve and say she laughs, cries, responds to them and tries to talk.

Weller said Terri cried when her mother hugged her Saturday night. "She knows what's going on. She was trying to vocalize something with Mary."

"The governor should know that Terri still knows who her mother is, and she's extremely distressed," Weller said. "She's not a vegetable who doesn't know what is happening."

You are so right. This is what the people answering polls have no idea of. Also the legislature was duped by this law. I see it as worse than Oregon's euthanasia law. Fact is Greer is 100% within the law of FL passed in 1999. Now that is the tragedy too. The way I see it, you sure don't have to be terminally ill to have food and hydration removed. Also they can ignore advanced directives that say I want a feeding tube if the patient's condition fits their very liberal criteria.

I still believe in law but common sense too. No judge should rule to remove a tube from this case. And no federal or Supreme court should allow it. But the real problem that started all this is the Fl law itself.

They can subpoena him and send the U.S. Marshalls to get him.

U.S. Marshalls will find Judge Greer, I assure you.

If Congress doesn't have the guts to do it, we need to get a new Congress.

Yes, thank you for clarifying that.

I recall that Greer one time said something like "The law of the case is that she must die!!"

My Lord.

That's almost word for word what my husband said. He said this took years in the making.

But he was much more harsh about Gov. Bush.

(I was agreeing with him, the entire way.)

Ask a question:

How hard was Gov. Bush going to fight something that came about as a result of something he signed into law?

I do not want to think of the answer.

My opinion/belief in Gov. Bush has changed. Period.

KEVORKIAN: Well, let's take what people think is a dignified death. Christ. Was that a dignified death? Do you think it's dignified to hang from wood with nails through your hands and feet, bleeding for three or four days and slowly dying? With people jabbing spears into your side and people jeering you? Do you think that's dignified? Not by a long shot. Had Christ died in my van (laughter) with people around him who loved him, the way it was, it would be far more dignified. My rusty van.

He was arrested one night, spent the night in some kind of prison, was abused some more, and crucified the next day and was on the cross for about 3 hours and was buried before sunset according to the Jewish custom iirc. 24 hours max.

This guy isn't very bible literate. Did he really say that? The rest of it is blasphemy as far as I am concerned.

Bible scholars, please help me out here.

By denying Terry communion and last rites betrays his soulless intentions.

If this is true, Governor Bush should get her out of there now.

I as the Governor could not allow a conscious person to be starved to death, even if it meant I would lose office.

It is a moral duty to act.

I've not seen one FReeper, who wants to handle this situation rationally and within the law, express a desire or hope for her death.

I believe he referred to freepers who were "content that Terri should die".

Anybody who doesn't believe an injustice is being done is content that she should die, by definition.

That's not a lie. It's a simple statement of fact.

Actually, the US Marshals won't have to go far, as he has TWO of them guarding him at this minute. Think about that. The President sent two US Marshals to protect Judge Greer, and zero to protect Terri.

Nearly overnight, "Bush" is becoming a close curseword. And I can't say it is undeserved. Where could we possibly headed from here if W's political power sinks lower and lower. Where do we turn?
