Not to be a contrarian, but I've known any number of devout people who claim that they aren't worried about anything, because when it's "there time," the Lord will take them.
Usually I don't say anything to this, because it's rude to try to knock down people's beliefs. But on a couple of occasions, I've replied by inviting the individual in question to climb up to the top of the nearest building and jump off. The idea being, of course, that if it's not "their time," they'll just bounce a couple of times and get up smiling.
We are born into this world free, and subject to the limitations of nature. The Almighty does not manipulate the cosmos on a series of strings. If he did, life would be completely pointless.
Oh absolutely. I think for Greer and M. Schiavo, it's been about ego and "winning" for quite a while now. They must be giddy with the power they have the Schindlers, no question, and to be able to so publicly flaunt it -- all the way to flipping off Congress! What a pair.
And despite things I've heard otherwise, I don't expect any serious investigation of the hospice either. Florida's had enough problems with people in their "care" over the past few years. You think Jeb's going to want it known about all the other "peaceful deaths" that have taken place at Suncoast, after this? Talk about saving face. Nope, soon Terri will gone, then they will get out the big brooms and proceed to sweep, sweep, sweep....
I'll be happy to proven wrong, but the actions (or INactions) of the "good guys" these past weeks haven't given me any reason to think I will be.
Do you have a link for what you are claiming? There were various reports, one that a Clinton-appointed judge was the one dissenting, another that it was a Bush 41 judge who dissented.
I agree. See my post #27
Michael can now step forward as an advocate for physician assisted suicide (PAS), which has not been legal in Florida
The former Chief Justice of the Florida State Supreme Court (Gerald Kogan) advocates it and so does the ACLU which has given Kogan an award for his "bravery" in dissenting.
The same folks who told us Terri is feeling no pain, will switch their story and begin tosay that it is "kinder" to kill someone with a medication than have them undergo the agony of starvation.
The fight for the rights of the disabled is only beginning.
You hit the nail on the head. Greer will have a waiting line of deans from the major universities eager to make him commencement speaker and give him an honorary doctorate. (Michael will probably have to make do with the stipends afforded somewhat less distinguished guests. He's just too creepy for commencement ceremonies.)
ok lets not be totally stupid here...
I appreciate your point. I believe the issues are confounded here. Whether or not this is the best thing for Terri is one issue. Whether or not this is what Terri wanted is another issue. Finally, whether or not the judge acted wisely and prudently in obtaining and reviewing ALL evidence is a third issue. If this were clearly Terri's will, I think... in fact I know... that conservatives would generally support it. But there are many unanswered questions, things that seem so simple, yet have been rejected out of hand by the judge and the husband, that a prudent person would want answers to before taking such an extreme course of action. I wouldn't invest $10,000 with this many questions unanswered, let alone starve a woman to death.
The standard in law looks at what a reasonably prudent person should or would do. I don't think we see that in this case.
Just my opinion, one I have not posted due to all the flamers that this topic seems to draw.
What the hell kind of question is that? Maybe the question, in order to be relevent to what I posted, would be better phrased "If you knew that a murder was taking place on your street or in your town at a particular place would you make sure you stopped by while it was going on, and you didn't get there in time to stop it, would you blow up the murderer's house and kill everyone in it?"
it could have easily been removed so that she could have had the MRI.
What balls! MS holding a press conference - who will air this lieing mouth?
** Will he do a jig for us at his news conference? **
If you've been following Becki Snow's blogs and seen FReeper 8mmMauser's email from outside Terri's hospice Michael's supporters have been doing so for some time.

Why!? So she can stand by while more innocents are killed...she hasn't done a thing to help Terri! If she was pro life as she has been trying to make people believe, why didn't she come forward in ways to help Terri and her parents? Huh?
:(
How does any sociopath sleep at night?
In this country, the lack of interest of the general population to get involved in its major issues is amazing. Like for example; the DISPROPORTIONATE RISE OF MEDICAL COSTS, THE DISPROPORTIONATE RISE OF CEO SALARIES, THE CONSTANT INCREASE IN THE SIZE OF GOVERNMENT, THE ETHNIC CLEANSING OF CHRISTIAN MINORITIES IN THE ARAB WORLD, THE OUTSOURCING OF JOBS TO THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES, THE FIFTH COLUMN OF MUSLIM JIHADISTS LEAVING IN THE USA and so on.
Every time I reflect on the how much energy is spent by the "silent majority" the Christians on Abortion, I keep thinking that our leadership are probably happy that we are all lathered up to fight amongst our selves over this one issue, that we have no more energy to organize or to unite in keeping their feet's to the fire about the bigger issues. Remember, this abortion issue was with us for more than quarter of a century, and may still be with us for another quarter of a century or more? Do you agree that ALL our energy should be wasted on this one single issue for decade after decades. At one point we will have no country to defend as we are too preoccupied with the abortion issue.
I've seen it as there being both Clinton-apointed judges and Bush-appointed judges who both dissented and agreed with the rulings...
I don't think the rulings and opinions and dissentions have been based on any one political philosophy...
