"The author stated that the Shah imprisoned dissidents."

I am concerned that future generations will not have the truth about history. The revisionist garbage was starting to get to me, however, I have been hearing more often now that REAL scholars are setting the record straight.

If I remained straight after dealing with them for a year, I've got teflon-coated Guy Genes. :D

Slowly, but surely, it is happening. The thing that is the real threat is tenure. As a grad student, I can say that ending tenure will make academia more competitive and will urge professors to earn their keep. As it stands, a professor can rest on their laurels after they obtain tenure. Imagine having a 4-year trial period at a job. Imagine being guaranteed employment until you croak after you pass that trial period. Certainly, there are many good, hard-working professors. However, there are many more smug elitists who play at working and mock the rest of society as being provincial.

I have had my encounters with the North American Hippie Harpy. It is a noisy creature that make hara kiri seem appealing and painless when compared to their screeds.

"...Imagine being the one white male with a job and a supply of antiperspirant and a working shower, living on an island of screeching, unbathed women, and stinky unbathed wimps"
For a second there I thought that you were talking about the middle east.

Interesting how our action in Iraq has not only given Iraqis hope for the future, but to other people all over the region as well.

The Persians were once again encouraged by the President's vision when he said, "To the Iranian people, I say tonight: As you stand for your own liberty, America Stands with you." This reiterated his support to the Iranian freedom fighters inside of the Islamic Republic. Several political analysts have confirmed that this was in direct reference to the pro-democracy movement in Iran. "The President was sending a message to the people of Iran that if they rise up America will stand by their side," said political analyst Charles Krauthammer.

This was a great moment in the President's speech.

I am thrilled to know that the Iranian people were watching, and encouraged by his words of support.

"The thing that is the real threat is tenure."

You hit it squarely on the head. I fought a local school on an out of control SIXTH grade teacher. I was told she had tenure so their hands were tied. I informed them that more than their hands would be tied if my child was injured in one of the teachers tirades. Said teacher was transferred to the High School the following year. Said child, (mine) was in private school until graduation.

"Slowly, but surely, it is happening."

I am glad to hear that & equally glad to hear there are students that realize the problems. My best to you in your studies. Be vigilant.
