Police 'Showdown' Averted ['Team of State Agents Were En Route to Seize Terri']
Miami Herald ^ | Sat, Mar. 26, 2005 | CAROL MARBIN MILLER

Posted on 03/25/2005 7:55:28 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo was not to be removed from her hospice, a team of state agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted -- but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Herald has learned.

Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.

For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called ``a showdown.''

In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.

''We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in,'' said a source with the local police.

''The FDLE called to say they were en route to the scene,'' said an official with the city police who requested anonymity. ``When the sheriff's department and our department told them they could not enforce their order, they backed off.''

The incident, known only to a few and related to The Herald by three different sources involved in Thursday's events, underscores the intense emotion and murky legal terrain that the Schiavo case has created. It also shows that agencies answering directly to Gov. Jeb Bush had planned to use a wrinkle in Florida law that would have allowed them to legally get around the judge's order. The exception in the law allows public agencies to freeze a judge's order whenever an agency appeals it.

You're right: it's based on Judeo Christian principles, and that's great.

However, when somebody stands up and thumps on their copy of this book and says that their literal translation of it takes precedence over the Constitution of the United States, then they're wrong.

If they want to live by a literal translation of the Bible, that's their business, and because this is America, with our secular laws BASED on Judeo Christian principles, they can do just that.

However, they have no right to impose others to do that, UNLESS THE LAWS OF THE LAND ARE CHANGED.

So, all you folks who think that we ought to live strictly by THE BOOK, maybe you should elect officials in charge that will make our country a theocracy.

Do you think you'd get enough votes?

"I agree with that part. However, when official church policy was to kill heretics"

After the fall of the Roman empire, Chritan Europe slowly got it's act together and for a time the chruch and the state were one. It was during that period that the heretics were excuted (not narly as often as you would have us believe). It was the state NOT the church that any reasonable person would blame.

I don't hate you. I don't like you, but I don't hate you.

We're a lot alike, you and I, because I don't particularly care what you think about me either.

Besides, I rather pride myself on my sarcasm and find myself endlessly funny.

I have to say the ACLU has done a good job at convincing most that judges have the final say.
Perhaps I should repeat this "JUDGES ARE JUST LAWYERS IN DRESSES!"

Stop it. You're starting to scare me, and I don't mean in the 'heretic-cowed-by-the-righteous" kind of way, either.

Nope....YOU go find where it says that YOU are able to tell people who you not only do not know, but have no idea what their position on anything is,that they're going to burn in hell and insult them. It's YOUR claim, you prove it. :-)

You aren't "preaching", spreading the word of GOD, or anything like. You are claiming to be GOD's surrogate and judging people blindly. And during the holiest of holy days of the year,to boot.

If I were you, I think I'd begin to worry a bit. Just a thought. :-)

By attacking, ridiculing, belittling and insulting those of us (and our believe system) that argue for Terry right not to be murdered one can reasonably conclude you oppose us and our goals. Ergo you are pro death, even if you lack the courage to state, it or the wisdom to know it.

Try to be specifc OTHERWISE it might be interpreted as a sweeping bigoted generalization. As to the Constituion -you do realize that our founders did not grant us those pesky inalienable rights (e.g. the right to life)? Those inalienable rights are acknowledged as from the Creator as in God, as in the theocratic thing you refer to... We are a Republic that recognizes some of God's laws as a basic premise underlying our Constitution...

Electrolyte disorders following massive insulin overdose in a patient with type 2 diabetes.

Thanks! Do you have an online subscription to the journal?

Shows that indeed insulin overdose can induce postassium deficiency.

Here's hoping the Schindler's lawyer has this information.

What it boils down to, as I see it, is that there are some folks who truly believe that they are God's Christian soldiers, that there are no shades of black and white, that the Bible should be literally translated and should take precedence over Civil Law. Paradoxically, they feel that they alone delivered the election to the Republicans and now they want the respect and deference to their wishes that they feel is due them. At it's heart, this has nothing to do with miserable situation at hand.

Please, God created them and he only "killed" their flesh. They stood around and jeered and sneered watching that ark being built, guess you could say they were warned.

The reason they were killed was not just because they were nonbelievers. I know I know boring.
