WHAT POLITICAL PRICE WILL REPUBLICANS PAY?
Neal Nuze ^ | 4/24/05 | Boortz

was absolutely astounded yesterday when Florida Governor Jeb Bush held that press conference and talked about the State of Florida taking custody of Terri Schiavo. He presented to the media the opinion of a doctor that Terri Schiavo was not in a persistent vegetative state .. but rather just in some sort of a period of reduced consciousness. This doctor has never seen Terri Schiavo, except on videotape, and he's issuing findings that are completely at odds with doctors who have been personally examining Terri for many months.

Think about this for a moment. Attending physicians conduct their examinations and make their reports. The matter moves into the courts and is adjudicated ... adjudicated extensively. Nineteen state judges, one Federal District Court judge, one Court of Appeals, and three now four trips to the U.S. Supreme Court. Still, politicians aren't happy with the results ... so now the State contemplates using its police power to seize the body of Terri Schiavo so that she can be forced to endure this horrible existence for years to come.

Across America there are thousands of families who have faced similar situations and made their difficult decisions without political interference. There are tens of millions more who have expressed their wishes, both in writing and in words, that they never be kept alive in this manner. Now these people are watching this hideous spectacle of politicians plotting the literal kidnapping of Terri Schiavo. And why? To please a powerful political constituency .. the ant-abortion lobby.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think that there are many people out there who, when faced with medical disaster, want to be turned over to politicians to be used as political pawns. I'm wondering if these people will be anxious to keep Republicans in power.

Ask Terri's parents and her brother if they think it should be overturned. Sounds to me like its 3-1 in favor of life. Michael is outnumbered.

The only people who would change their vote on this issue are Republicans--Dems will support their peeps for doing nothing,

Maybe the activists, but there are many, many rank and file democrats who are good, God-fearing, sympathtic people. They're democrats because they've always got their news from one of the Big Three networks or they come from a family which has always been democrat. They're not evil people, just misinformed.

I'm sure there are democrats who fall into that category who support Terri's family and are disgusted by the courts and the people who want Terri dead. \

It ain't just him. The vast majority of Americans are horrified that the Federal government butted in on a private family tragedy and is using Terri as a political football!

Is the Bush administration planning on intervening in the hundreds of cases like this that happen each year???

There will be damage to the republican party and the pro-life movement as well IMO.

Obviously Neal is suffering from substantially diminished capacity.

He always has. His virulent hatred of Christians and his anti-morality stance caused me to turn him off shortly after our local station replaced The G-Man with him.

This is a lie. Neil Boortz is a piece of excrement. I hope he enjoys his diminished ratings and ultimate cancellation over the next year or two.

Those who didn't already become discusted and leave the demonDeathPushingRats during the last election. My Father was one of those, he is 87 years old. First time in his life that he voted for a Republican and he voted for President Bush in this last election.

It is sort of sad that in defending Republican rule we are often left with nothing to say but, "it would be worse if the Democrats were in control."

I mean, that is true, but its hardly a ringing endorsement of GOP rule.

Our GOP President and GOP Congress will never challenge the Courts, and they seem intent on being so bad on immigration that even a leftie like Hillary will be able to exploit the border/illegal alien situation.

Frist will fail to force a vote on Bush's best judicial nominees.

Still, when presented with truly frightening scenarios like President Hillary, or Speaker Pelosi, or Majority Leader Reid, then the GOP seems the best practical alternative. I already fear the loss of Sen Santorum to sure-to-be-phony-moderate Bob Casey in Penn, and I even worry a bit that Gov Warner of Va might threaten Sen Allen, who I'd like to see win an easy reelection then run for President in 08. He'd definitely be better than McCain or Giuliani.

But anyway, as to the topic at hand, does anyone think this Schiavo case will have any resonance next year? Its a terrible thing, but I just can't see it having much carry-over effect.

Not true, he spent some time with her earlier this month.

and he's issuing findings that are completely at odds with doctors who have been personally examining Terri for many months.

Only some of them.

If she could talk she'd be in better shape than Christopher Reeve was in when he died. The left loved him.

At least Reeve fought until the end to LIVE, unlike that despicable example of "Million dollar Baby", which I think has really contributed horribly to our "culture of death".

Funny you should post that picture. Many Terri supporters are praying that Jeb does exactly what that picture portrays.

Earlier some freeper was saying we needed a Waco-style assault on the hospice in Florida!

He [Jeb] has done all he can

A fact which even the Schindlers acknowledge.

After I found out the plot twist, I had no need or want to see Million Dollar Baby. Thanks Rush for saving me the $8.00.

Big difference, they are trying to save a life not snuff one out by returning a child to a brainwashing school.

Speaking of butting in, aren't you at all upset that it's a judge making the decision to kill the woman?

I am horrified there are people like you out running around loose. You'd think diminished capacity would get you locked up for the duration.

Enormous damage has been done IMO.

If the reps spend millions roaring into town at midnight over one individual they will be voted out of office. I recently sat with 3 family elders during their last weeks, when they no longer could take nourishment.

So what if Florida Sheriff's officers who are guarding the hospice are killed in the Waco-style assault?

Are you OK with that???

at least the Repubs have TRIED to save her.

That is true, and any time some one trys to do the right thing I support them. I do not believe the poles show the majority voting against keeping her alive, or against the politicians. I think they just want people to think that so they won't feel as much ashamed. If they feel shame.
