The Shame of ABC (A bogus poll to back up the sneering. Schiavo case)
Slate ^ | March 24, 2005 | Mickey Kaus

The Shame of ABC: I hadn't realized that the surprising ABC poll about the Schiavo case--showing overwhelming anti-tube sentiment--was so badly worded and biased. (For one thing, it deceptively tells pollees that Terri Schiavo is on "life support." * For another, it leads with the flat assertion that "Doctors say she has no consciousness and her condition is irreversible."**) Michelle Malkin and "Captain Ed" Morrissey are onto the ABC poll. ... Malkin, Morrissey and Powerline also raise doubts about that clumsy Republican talking points memo that ABC's Linda Douglass first trumpeted. I'm not so sure that you'd expect a letterhead on such a hastily-drawn memo, or even the correct bill title. It's not like it's a blog or something formal! It's less clear that the memo was written by anyone in the GOP leadership as opposed to a pro-life lobbying group, as Malkin points out. Yet unless you listened very carefully to Douglass' slyly worded report you got the distinct impression that it was a Republican leadership document....."

ABC's ratings and the rest of the MSM are what are on "life support." Add to this the fake memo and it is really getting ugly. Even now Alan Colmes is doing his best to say, in effect. "so what the memo is fake, the content is accurate." Sounds similar to, "the memo was a forgery, but we stand by the story." Jeez, these people have a slow learning curve.

Bill Bennett did a very good job in responding to Alan.

Notice how gleeful he seems? A person is dying, Bill and Sean look somber, and Alan is a smart aleck. Bill is right. We don't like to look at ugliness, but when over 70% has a different opinion about life we have got to.

I wonder if 70% really realize that Terri is 1) not in a coma; 2) did not leave a written living will; and 3) is having her life terminated based upon heresay evidence of her husband. I have looked at the polls and they all ask leading questions or are based on misleading facts, i.e. Terri is on life support and has expressed a will to die, should the government step in to prevent it? What a loaded and misleading BS question, but that is what the MSM, hell even Fox, has been engaged in.

Mickey Kaus is an admitted liberal and he supported "I fought in Vietnam" John Kerry. But he was very critical of Kerry and the Rats and the media on his blog on Slate during the election. Kind of like a Pat Caddel.

I am certain the MSM plays a role in the lopsided support. However, the numbers wouldn't be as they are if people weren't pre-disposed toward Death. It's sad, and something I've only now had to admit.

Two days ago, a Bush hating friend of mine was trying to convince me that the moral thing to do would be to let Schiavo die of starvation because "Republicans are hypocrites" and "Republicans are only using this issue to strengthen their Bible thumping agenda" (As if letting an innocent person die is morally justified in order to thumb your nose at your political opponents.) He constantly referred to some memo that he claimed "proved that the Republicans are allowing someone to suffer in order to further their extremist right wing agenda".

I told him that I didn't believe the memo was real and refused to even discuss it unless and until it was proved authentic to my satisfaction, in spite of his arguments that the media really wasn't biased and that Rather-gate was an anomaly.

I called him back this afternoon to say "See, I told you so" and to his credit, he agreed that perhaps his perception of the media as unbiased was inaccurate.

So, are you going to call your friend back today, and tell him you were wrong and he actually was right???

I already called him and pointed out this new information.

It seems it's too late for him to change back, though.

He's alredy joined me on the dark side in understanding that there is no such thing as objuective media; only partisan advocates.

Heh, heh, heh, heh, heh.
