A similar thing happened on Cape Cod. A round or three landed on Route 6.

"Check Fire, I repeat, Check Fire! "

Isn't it supposed to be "Check Fire, I say again, Check Fire!"....and that didn't always work either.

Not if you're not sure where the effect will be.

I wonder if there is a mountainer standing on the side of the mountain yelling "Fire in the hole"!

That reminds me a of story. Back when I was in the Army, a lot of our younger pilots liked to say "Lima Charlie" instead of "Loud and Clear" because it sounded cooler on the radio, I guess.

One day, the Senior Instructor pilot finally had enough. He says; "Don't you knuckle-heads realize that we use the phonetic alphabet to make letters more clear. We use letters in acronyms to be able to say things quicker. There are more syllables in "Lima Charlie" than there is in "Loud and Clear"...so knock it off!

We no longer heard "Lima Charlie" on the radio.

Never, ever, say "REPEAT" when calling a cease fire.

Say again...

They didn't return fire? Now the the state's going to move in on them - make them watch PBS.

Not in MY free fire zone.

That's almost as bad as troops at Ft. Hood sending SIX rounds off post. Almost hit a house and barn.

In 63, a reserve DE escorting us on a training cruise fired the main battery (at least two salvoes) 180 degrees to the gunnery range's axis, and bracketted...and panicked...a Japanese freighter over the horizon.

Next, an AA target-towing plane refused to come back with a new target after they chopped the target tow line about 10' aft of the tail with quad 40's.

The next week the same DE was leaving leaving port, and sideswiped a Japanese lumber freighter, sustaining extensive damage.

Not a bad record for a short two weeks.

Dude, you gotta be smarter than the gun tube!

(The Department of Transportation owns a 105 howitzer? And they're afraid of US owning "assault weapons"?!)
