Exactly right. If the "suspect" was prescribed medicine but didn't receive any counseling, which isn't uncommon, then the medicine won't help out much. And there's no guarantee that the "suspect" was even taking the medicine, especially if he was resistant to the idea that he needed help.

And the usual problem with these drugs is the cecession of use without counsel and without tapering off. Very likely this kid was on Prozak and quite on his own, (because he could not live with being mentally ill) and triggered the episode. We probably will not know because he killed the links to his pre-rampage behavior. but this would be my guess.
