Many family members exhaust all means possible to a recovery by physical therapy, speech therapy, rehab, etc...before realizing that recovery is not possible. Sometimes 7 years

That is so true, look at all the money Micheal has wasted on rehabilitation therapy. Why he might have realized it sooner if he hadn't had the comfort of another woman to take his mind off of the situation.

No - she's being taken care of by medicaid.

"You mean all the money St. Michael got for her care isn't going to her care."

You might be interested in this little read - it appears St. Michael and his lawyer COULD be in a bit of trouble in regard to Medicare/Medicaid fraud.

Instead of relating the results of a blurry, overexposed scan, so poorly executed that the patients's name cannot be discerned and would get most techs fired. Please show where I may find the definitive MRI that would show the amount and extent of her supposed atrophied cerebral cortex.

Since you deem it so important to tie a person's life to the results of a scan or test at least use one that can be somewhat accurate.

Au contraire. I fight to preserve life everyday in the overwhemling majority of my patients. If a patient doesn't want to give up, I will be with them througout the night to save their life, and have done on many occasions. But if a patient wants to end extraordinary measures I have no problem withholding all treatment.

Like I said, I'm impressed, especially with your involvement. You've probably got quite a few scalps in your belt. I get the impression you like having innocent blood on your hands, kind of reveling in it.

This is a really slimy comment, chimera. Doctors aren't making the choices here.

However, in Texas, doctors do get to make the choice, courtesy of a law, signed in 1999 by Governor George W. Bush.

Wow, this is an excellent site! Very informative and credible. My favorite quotes so far:

"The most alarming thing about this image, however, is that there certainly is cortex left. Granted, it is severely thinned, especially for Terri's age, but I would be nonplussed if you told me that this was a 75 year old female who was somewhat senile but fully functional, and I defy a radiologist anywhere to contest that."

"If you starve this woman to death it would be, in my professional and experienced medical opinion, the equivalent of starving to death a 75-85 year old person. I would take that to the witness stand."

That I don't know, but the Noble-prize nominated neurologist did.

Winning a Nobel prize is a big deal. Simply being nominated is not. This is not like the Oscars where there are only a handful of nominees.

The list of those eligible to nominate includes former laureates, selection committee members, members of any national government or legislature, university professors and selected non-profit organizations. You could probably get your cat nominated if you worked at it.

Let us think hypothetically for a moment. Let's say she is in a PVS, and there is no hope of rehabilitation. Let's also say that it is shown she ended up in this condition from abusive injuries, would you change you view on what to do with Terri Schindler?

Wow!!

Gratefully, I can "WOW" more by good times than bad times!

The last time I got a "WOW" from a FR thread was when I discussed my experience in the jump seat of a P-51 Mustang doing greater than 200 knots approximately 20 feet off the deck. : )

there is no MRI in this case because the judge refused to order one

There is no MRI because she has metal implants in her brain. They were put in her head as part of theraphy early on in attempting to regenerate her brain. Suppose you could give her brain surgery to remove them but then all that spinal fluid would leak out.

Well, at some point we have to rely on the judgement of care by those who are appointed legal guardians. I do find it odd that there are so many people who say "we should have this test done" or "we should have that test done" when not one of those people are legal guardians of poor Terri Schiavo.

It think it's called "Monday morning quarterbacking" but the game's only at the two minute warning.
