I wasn't allowed any food in labor with my oldest- and they rationed my ice chips. I was in labor for 23 1/2 hours and friend snuck me a little vanilla cookie about 5 hours before he was born. I savored that little cookie...

As soon as he (and the younger two) was born, the first thing I asked for was FOOD.

Ice chips never tasted so good either -- to this day when I am sick, I have a glass of water beside me with ice -- a lot of chipped ice from the ice maker.

I just want these people that say it is so easy to go even 24 hours without food or water and see how they feel.

I guess I wasn't allowed any food during labor, but that didn't really bother me. I was only in the hospital for 6 hours before giving birth (although labor lasted 36 hours).

I had an accident many years ago. I think the concern was that if I ate, it would complicate treatment. So, for four days, I only got clear liquids. When I asked for food, I got Jello. I was SOOOOO hungry.
