Last night I saw Mort Kondrake repeating the line about how blissful and euphoric death by starvation really is (he "has read up on it"). I know about his wife's situation and I know they were faced with the issue, but I was a little stunned that Mort couldn't discern the difference between cessation of eating due to terminal illness and diseased tissue vs. withholding food and water from an otherwise healthy, non-dying body.
I don't understand these people at all -- terminal illness is totally different but I don't think it would be right to starve them to death either. I love how people talk about it wouldn't be bad. Obviously they have never been in a hospital and couldn't eat or drink before surgery. Just that little bit is enough to send chills up my back at seeing Terri starved to death.
