It may be that women who do not take take of their teeth, do not take care of their health in general.

You make a valid point.....however there are some people who have not been blessed with good teeth to begin with, regardless of how well they take care of them.

I am a perfect example, I am in good health, am concious of maintaining good oral hygiene, as well as all other hygiene, yet have horrendous dental problems.

At the very first dental visit my daughter had, while looking in her mouth the dentist said to me "you've always had tooth decay problems, haven't you? She's going to have the same."

I presume hubby or S.O. mouth germs were ruled out?

Makes you wonder. I worked in OB for several years before working in the OR. We used to get a lot of vaginal cultures back that stated Normal Oral Flora.

Periodontal disease is associated with heart disease, diabetes, premature babies, stroke, respiratory diseases and osteoporosis.

My dentist insists on pre-meds of 1 gram of amoxicillin before digging around in my mouth. I have a prolapsed mitral valve. Subacute Bacterial Endocarditis is a possible consequence of oral bacteria entering the blood stream during a dental procedure.
