The correct title for this article should be: Latin American and Caribbean emigrants suck $45.8 billion from the U.S. economy in 2004.

That makes no sense. Do you think the 45.8 billion was stolen and then hidden away overseas never to be seen again?

Mere size of the economy doesn't translate into quality of life.

Mexico suffers from rampant corruption that imposes hardship on its citizens, and negatively affects the economy.

Please point out a case where rampant graft and corruption in government has resulted in a general increase in the standard and living and wealth of individuals, that keeps up with and reflects a similar growth in the economy?

Corruption tends to concentrate wealth in the hands of the few.

Sure does, & nothing the US does changes mexico's corruption, or their poverty levels.....time for the mexicans to *better their own country/gov't.

And it's way pastime for Americans to regain this country, before we too are another third world cesspool.
