State officials say they are considering removing Terri Schiavo from hospice, by force if necessary, despite numerous court orders upholding the removal of the artificial nutrition tube that has kept her alive for 15 years.
Lucy Hadl, secretary of the Department of Children and Families, said Wednesday morning that her staff is relying on a state law that gives the department the authority to intervene on behalf of a vulnerable adult who is 'suffering from abuse or neglect that presents a risk of death or serious physical injury.'
Hadl said that the DCF would have to file a petition in order to remove Schiavo, but that 'it doesn't mean we'd have to have judicial approval in advance of taking the action if we believed it met the threshold for doing it.'
Hadl said that seven years of court rulings backing Schiavo's husband Michael, in his contention that Terri Schiavo did not wish to be kept alive artificially would not stop the DCF from taking action.
'We're not compelled to look at prior judicial proceedings,' Hadl said.
What we are compelled to look at is the presenting circumstances and any allegiations of abuse and neglect that we have recieved. So we have to deal with those and fufill out statutory responsibility.'

There are enough armed Court Bailiffs and Marshals in the State to enforce anything they want.
Besides which you are talking about a Constitutional crisis that could result in Civil War and/or Martial Law to save one brain dead woman from being cremated. She died 15 years ago.
The little stunt you advocate could result in hundreds of thousands dead.
Pull some film on civil war in Sudan, or read about the Reconstruction South again before you continue to advocate anything so stupid.

Presidents and Governors take custody of individuals every day without first obtaining the permission of the courts. Have you ever seen a drunk driver arrested? Or a shoplifter picked up by the police? Sure, they have to be brought before a judge and formally charged, but that happens AFTER they are taken into custody, not before.
The reason he called you a troll is because you said the Nat'l Guard is in Iraq to search for WMD, and your punctuation stinks. These are the hallmarks of a troll, Mr. Troll.
They wanted to bait Greer and also to make sure there wouldn't be any riots to really [bleep] things up.
Somehow I suspect new pro-life legislation will emerge both nationally and in the state legislature, as those who would oppose it slink off with their tails between their legs.

This is the most severe case of wife abuse I know of that everybody knows about but does nothing Effective about.
Sins of Omission become Mortal Sins when Terri’s or someone else’s life is RELYING on life saving ACTION which is not taken and death results.

I know that the tone of that is not very Catholic. But this never ending abuse of Terri is not very Catholic or Christian either!

My thanks to “W” for his social security and terrorism/Iraq efforts Fades way into the background because of this issue.
This issue of Terri’s life and euthanasia in general will not be ignored like some of the others (eg: education/Kennedy, etc.).

As I recall, the family was in the midst of negotiating with the lawyers (officers of the court) when the house was raided. In other words, the court was being used as a diversionary tactic to catch the family off guard.

Michael has been deliberately sandbagging Terri's condition. His actions prove that her condition is much better than he claims. Give Terri a week with sunshine, fresh air, a kitty cat, and some quack doctor who waves magic crystals over her head, and she'll be much better. Substitute an honest and good doctor, and she'll be better yet.
Well, I hope you are right, but I have no faith in a rescue at the last minute.

Hi sl.....sorry I didn't respond to you the other night...I was caught up on Terri and then forgot to respond to your post about your going to court to testify....was that for today or yesterday....my days are blending together this past week. Hope it went well!
As I recall, the state courts were in Elian's favor, but the Clintonistas got it into federal court somehow and got a federal judge to order that the father was the legal guardian. They used that order to go grab him.
