Jeb Bush Renews Call to Help schiavo

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (AP) - Their options dwindling after two failed federal court appeals, Terri Schiavo's parents and brother vowed Wednesday to take their fight to the U.S. Supreme Court and state Legislature as the brain-damaged woman was in her fifth day without a feeding tube.

Gov. Jeb Bush renewed his call for the Legislature to step in and ``spare Terri's life.''

In a 2-1 ruling early Wednesday, a panel of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta said the parents, who have battled with son-in-law Michael Schiavo for years over the woman's fate, ``failed to demonstrate a substantial case on the merits of any of their claims'' that the feeding tube should be reinserted immediately.

``There is no denying the absolute tragedy that has befallen Mrs. Schiavo,'' the ruling by Judges Ed Carnes and Frank M. Hull said. ``We all have our own family, our own loved ones, and our own children. However, we are called upon to make a collective, objective decision concerning a question of law.''

Why isn't the US Justice Dept. getting this done in the federal courts? Why just the family?

Jeb! It's up to you!! It's always been up to you as the Governor of FL!!!

The 14th cannot and should not wipe out the 10th, or else we'll have another civil war over the 14th... Don't just "let George do it!" You do it!!!

I'm beginning to believe that this got nothing to do with Terri but the judges attitude of "I am God". The judges sure like this "who can last the longest" game.

Good work!

I'd wondered about adultery laws. I had assumed they had all been wiped off the books by now.

You better write it down if that's what you want.

The former governor of Oregon signed such a statement. The odd thing about it was that when he got cancer and faced chemo and a lingering death, he decided that he wanted to live. And took every extraordinary means to stay alive as long as possible.

I just saw that lovely concentration camp survivor arrested for trying to take water to Terri. The police officers sure did not seem to be thrilled with their own involvement there, they looked conflicted.

Gov. Jeb Bush renewed his call for the Legislature to step in and ``spare Terri's life.''

It is obvious, at this point, that only the Chief Executive of the state of Florida has the constitutional power to save Terri's life. Hopefully, he will not take the Pontius Pilate route with his authority.

What you say is correct but will only lead to a protracted legal custodial battle in front og Greer...in the mean time, Terri will die.

By taking her into protective custody of the abuse allogations and ongoing investigations...she will immediately be given life sustenance, water and food, she will be out from under Greer,...and they could even begin rehabilitating her so she could be her own witness if possible...which Michael has to fear at this point.

I believe this is the course to follow which will give her immediate relief and save her life.

Since the crime is a second degree misdeameanor that probably has never been prosecuted, it is highly unlikely that Michael Schiavo would remain in jail any longer than necessary to have his paltry bond posted for him. More than likely after being booked, he would be released on his own recognizance. Any effort to have removed as guardian would be before Greer who would see these tactics for the sham that they are and refuse to remove Michael Schiavo as guardian.

The FL Leg passed a law that would have saved Terri. It was challenged and ruled unconstitutional. The gods on the bench have spoken. Civil disobedience and defiance of the courts (What both the Bush brothers only option) towards life is passé and will not be tolerated unless you are a terrorist or convicted murderer.

Jeb's doing nothing but posturing, I'm afraid.

Just like Congress. Posturing.

If they had the cajones to DO. SOMETHING., it would have been done already.

They're pandering to us. The problem for them is that we now (courtesy of blogs and instant, worldwide communication) can discuss it and see it for the BS that it is.

I will lose a lot of faith in the W clan if Jeb and GWB do nothing (which I'm afraid is exactly what they will do).

Governor Bush can ONLY do what the law allows -- to do anything more would be breaking his oath and setting a bad precedent that could be used one day by the forces of evil if a liberal ever occupied that seat again.

You cannot let emotions get carried away and ask Gov Bush or President Bush to break the law or to take the law into their own hands. They have followed the Constitution and must continue to do so for the great good of this Nation.

Would love nothing better then have someone go in and free Terri but the Governor or the President have no legal authority in this instance. Maybe some of you should be looking why Terri's lawyers and her family when this was in State Court didn't get these affidavits that we see today from the nurses. Looks like there have been a lot of mistakes made but the last thing we need are more activist judicial decisions that are against the law or a President/Governor breaking the law.

My two cents and I support Life.

Jeff, that would take more courage than either the President or the Governor is likely to show.

Both of them have shown more courage in this tragedy than you have, pounding away on your keyboard.
