Josh Howard was executive producer of the 60 Minutes Wednesday broadcast where the Sept. 8 report aired. An independent panel later concluded that documents used to question Bushs National Guard service could not be verified.
While I am proud of all I have accomplished at CBS News over my entire 23-year career, it has become clear to me that the time has come for me to move on, Howard said in a statement.
CBS said it recognizes Howards contributions to CBS News, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.
Neither Howard nor the network would comment further. CBS is part of the media conglomerate Viacom Inc.
Three others were ousted for their roles in the story: Mary Murphy, Howards deputy, and Betsy West, former CBS News senior vice president of prime time, both resigned earlier. Mary Mapes, the reports producer, was fired. It was announced Tuesday that shes writing a book, titled The Other Side of the Story, that will be published this fall.

Another book!?
Now we will get to hear all of these CBS people portraying themselves as victims and promoting their books trashing President Bush and the blogosphere.
Wonderful.

I can hardly wait.
The more they manage to keep the story alive, the better.
I've no doubt Howard will be on TV crying about this or hawking some damn book in the near future, but I'm glad that CBS has not yet finished bringing the partisan slugs to justice who put that anti-Bush diatribe on the air and presented it as if it were factual news. Rather, Mapes and the lot tried to use outright lies and unfounded smears to unseat a President during a time of war, and they deserve to be punished for their actions CRIMINALLY. I guess this'll have to do, though.
Carve another notch in that belt, Buckhead.
Not too worry. Mr. Howard will have a job with ABCNBCPMSNBCNPRCNN before the week is out.
CBS and Rather used known fake, (they did the faking) material to attempt, no, committ treason by throwing the election to a known enemy of America. Pure and simple.
By the way, has Blather been on 60 Minutes since he got shoved out the door at cBS?
Yeah. Good luck finding an MSM report referring to, say, the "Abu Ghraib flap."
"...concluded that documents used to question Bushs National Guard service could not be verified."
Six months on and the AP still can't bring themselves around to call the documents FAKES and/or FORGERIES.

If he's actually proud of it, his standards must be even lower than I thought.

They'll probably get around to it right after they call Ohio for Bush.
This clown is retired to Tahiti, a multi-millionaire. Count on it.
In all likelihood, Mapes is the only perp in this mess who was NOT given cash-colored walking papers. The other three, the ones who were "asked to resign" and then did so only after "reaching a settlement with CBS", are probably millionaires.
Josh Howard was last heard threatening to sue CBS and subpoena the e-mails of senior execs to show how high and deep went the knowledge.
There was never any chance CBS would let that happen.
The only one we will see a book from is Mapes, because she is the only one whose silence CBS did not buy in a settlement agreement, inasmuch as she was fired outright.
She is still in full Capt. Ahab mode, railing about the white whale.
Wonder who made the most money - Mapes on her book deal, or Howard on his settlement?
You misspelled SeeBS.
