U-215 is FOUND!

A very rare Type IV-D German U-Boat, designed as a minelayer, was sunk off the American east coast. Although rumors persisted since the 1980's that she had been located, no divers had been on her. Recently, Richie Kohler has dived on this boat and confirmed that she is there. This is a really tough dive, for professionals only. The boat is some 110 miles offshore, lying in more than 200 feet with some extremely vicious currents. Full details are in KTB #178. Thanks to Paul Lawton for passing this information on to us.

Any bubbleheads out there who are willing to talk about ballistic missile subs/technology and their political implications 1950-1990?
One of my ex-bosses has a son who is looking for a 'primary source' for a HS freshman report.
He was a great boss, and is a good guy, his son sounds pretty squared away, and I'd like to give them a good lead.

What's amazing is how important these subs are to history. Hitler and the Japs had planned to attach a dirty nuclear bomb to one of the planes held in these subs. Then the sub was to be moved and the bomb kamikazed into San Francisco. The dirty bomb material was surrendered to the US on it's way to the sub/carrier rendezview as the allies took the Eagles Nest and Germany surrendered. The target day of the San Francisco strike was only 1 week after Japan surrendered.

Interesting. I delayed FReeping tonight so I could watch an hour-long doc on The History Channel regarding a couple U-boats in the Gulf that were attacking transit shipping and spying on cities. Look for a re-broadcast.
