RED LAKE, Minn.-- The FBI was called to investigate a shooting today at Red Lake High School that may have injured 14 people, according to police and broadcast reports.
Tom Lyons, chief deputy for Beltrami County, said the shooting occured about 3 p.m. at the school in Red Lake. He said that as many as 14 people were injured. He said he did not know if any of the victims had been killed. "We don't know that yet," he said. "Our information is just too sketchy right now."
KSTP-TV in the Twin Cities was reporting that six people may have died and many others were injured.

Interesting, as I understand Reservations are foreign nations and US and state law only apply if the tribal council (government) agree. Any gun control laws would only apply if the council agrees. I'll bet the Rats won't mention that.
???
Why is the FBI involved in this?
Thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.
I just heard the gun was his grandfather's who is an LEO. Reservation police? Since it happened on an Indian Reservation the FBI will investigate.
Close, but not quite. They are considered foreign, but dependent nations within the nation, and what it basically means is that the constitution doesn't apply on the rez, and it is congress that has oversight (i.e. only the federal government, via congress, can deal directly with the indians, unless congress specifically gives a state specific permission to do so) - for example, congress passed an "Indian Bill of Rights" specifically because the constitution doesn't apply there... it's a very complex relationship. :)
The FBI has jurisdiction on many Indian reservations throughout the country. They share that responsibility with the tribes and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The crimes we investigate include murder, rape, robbery, corruption, assaults with serious bodily injury, but only on those reservations where there is no state law enforcement jurisdiction...

oops.
Get Michael Moore to go up there and make a film ~ those bad boys will cut him up good.
In the more remote areas of the country where there are reservations, national parks, and other federal land, the FBI may provide most of the law enforcement available.
Don't know if the wounds of some of those "shot" might only be digging pellets out,
Not to sound mean, but do you shoot shotguns much?
Thanks, Chad, I knew the Constitution didn't apply, and Indians had a sort of treaty law situation, it is way more complicated than my "lawyer free" brain can comprehend.
I see. Missed the Indian reservation part.
It IS a weird situation, but it comes in handy when it comes to local and state governments levying taxes... ;0)
The shooter is dead. Apparent suicide.
No. I have a 40 year-old Browning 12 gauge that I've never shot.
I don't know what you call the shot.
Pretty pathetic, I know.
If you want some help into getting into shooting FR is the place to be. Folks around here are pretty smart and cover a lot of territory.
Somebody could introduce you to some great folks at a good range.
FReegards,
Tom Eaker
I think what eaker was getting at was that at close range, a shotgun does a great deal more damage than just some nuisance pellets. The wounds can be quite horrific.
If that wallhanger is one of those common-as-dirt model 12's, I'll give you 5 bucks for it.;-)
