CARBONDALE -- On the dance floor at Gatsby's II, a popular bar at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, a tall brunette drinks beer from a plastic pitcher while she grinds her backside into a man's body.
A silver disco ball hangs overhead while a blond woman in a pink, pleated miniskirt writhes on her partner's leg.
A girl notices that her boyfriend's attention is wandering. With a manicured hand, she grabs his face and plants a Hollywood-worthy kiss on his mouth.
On this sticky dance floor, littered with plastic cups and packed with gyrating bodies, women are the hunters as much as the hunted.
Traditional stereotypes dictate that men want sex, and women crave love. But, on today's college campuses, students say those gender lines are blurrier than a pair of beer goggles.
When a University of Illinois sorority girl observed over lunch at a Champaign cafe that "guys aren't looking for love," her friend chimed in: "I don't think we can blame it on the guys. I'm not looking for love, either."
Girls are just as bad as boys now," another woman said.
"To guys, [sex is] still like scoring," said author Tom Wolfe, who spent two years on college campuses researching his new novel. "The strange part is that it's become that for girls, too. They'll say, 'I scored Jack last night . . . finally!'''
A federal government survey of 4,600 college students found that slightly more male than female undergrads are virgins.

My fraternity got put on double secret probation for these kind of parties.
I don't suppose you've ever taken the time to wonder whether the problem is with you....
I guess you didn't go to school in Phoenix. I had to beat 'em off with a stick!
Ping to a sad article.

I don't recommend promiscuity or condone it, but I won't condemn someone for a mistake in judgement of this sort.
Have I opened a can of worms here???
"I think that is a good point. Also, I hear a lot about men not having respect for women and chivalry being dead. Is it really any wonder?"
The worst part is that young women think they are gaining respect by being slutty, like they are joining some type of elite club by sleeping around.
Having a daughter (or two, in my case) changes one's perspective on this topic substantially. My kids will not be living in dorms at colleges with co-ed dorms, unless they foot 100% of the bill. Nor will they be living off-campus (not at home) unless I have substantial confidence that they've selected their roommates very carefully. Period.
For those who need to justify promiscuity, it is important to deny this.
I don't really know what that means. The behavior is wrong, and harmful, and dangerous. If wrong, harmful, and dangerous behavior doesn't deserve condemnation, what kind of behavior does?
Only God has the right to condemn people, but all of us are supposed to have the moral discernment to condemn evil behavior.
Feminism wants to give permission for women to behave like whores, which is why feminists also promote abortion. Hey, gotta keep it all neat and tidy, right?
Yes. Very sad. There's nothing like having the rest of your life to regret poor youthful choices. But at least they can look back and know that no one cared enough about them to warn them of the dangers.
The eighties were pretty wild. I went into HS in 81 and graduated from college in 89 and we had a lot of fun but managed to avoid a lot of the pitfalls of the era.
Now I am a married mom with 2 kids with just memories! AHHH youth....
It's a bright line from the guys perspective. If you see that the gal is willing to bed any decent looking guy in the joint, then she's considered a slut. But if she is aggressive only towards you, then it is a helluva compliment.
> but in the end, I would rather be with a nice girl than somebody with no values.
"IN THE END" - that's the key frase. But meanwhile, "open-minded" girls are very welcome, aren't they?
> > Since love/marriage became nearly impossible to find
> I don't suppose you've ever taken the time to wonder whether the problem is with you....
If you drop patronizing tone, I will respond something meaningful to that... not like it was a question anyway...
im waiting for the "damn kids/back in my day" crowd to show up here....
Thanks Sex in the City!! /sarcasm
True, if you know that to be the case, and not just how she's acting tonight.
On the lowest level, she could be spreading diseases. Otherwise, on the natural level, she's learning pernicious habits that will be hard to break in later life. It will be much harder for her to establish a hold a monogamous relationship in later life, which could harm a future spouse and children. Currently, she's also setting a bad example for everyone who knows what she's doing. She's degrading every man that she fornicates with (as well as herself). She's also breaking her parents' hearts, if they're decent parents.
At the highest level, she's seriously jeopardizing her salvation and that of others. Not that we should care about her or anything. To hell with her, right?
