Both sides in the issue see the recent spate of high-profile deadly shootings as a catalyst to advance their causes in several states.
The massacre at a Wisconsin church service 10 days ago left Corey Graff outraged.
Outraged at the loss of life, of course. But furious, too, at state legislators who have refused to grant citizens the right to carry concealed handguns.

But, but, liberals say there's no need for law abiding citizens to carry in church.
And here they come, a vile shuffling procession of death-dancers who would shoot their own mothers if it advanced gun control, all of them with a (D) next to their names and blood on their loafers.
As I recall, it all came down to one guy, who sponsored the original bill, and flip-flopped and decided not to override the governor's veto.
Cut. Dried. Simple. Anywhere within the writ of the US government, a US Citizen has certain protected Rights. One of those is the Right to keep and bear Arms. Period. No other interpretation, emanation, penumbra, or "incorporation" of the Constitution is even remotely accurate despite judicial malfeasance and legislative negligence.
"We the People" are the Rulers in this Country. Having a "Right" to something means that there is no higher authority that can deny you the choice to engage in one action or another. Our political "hero's" can try to DENY us those Rights, but they can never remove them from us. Until we stand up to take control of those Rights back, we can never be said to truly be a "Land of the Free" or a "Home of the Brave".
It's unlikely anyone would have carried their guns to church 'then'; however, it wouldn't surprise me if gun owners would do so in the future. Of course they would need a CCW to do it in WI.
Times have changed, and people are no longer safe in church. This is the second massacre in a church in the last few years, that I can remember. The other one was in TX a few years ago.
Liberals say that there is no need for law abiding people to have guns.
"A forty-five on the hip is worth fifty in the plate."
I would need that CCW in the People's Republic of Maryland, too....the only problem is, it would be virtually impossible to get. "Free State" my a$$....

The national print media has led many to believe this took place at at church. It' didn't. It took place at a hotel where the church had rented a meeting room or something. They always say "church service" but RARELY ever say "at a hotel meeting room".
Amen, brother! :)
I know what you mean. Although NM has CCW, you have to go through all kinds of paperwork through the State Police. Then you have to go through their training. The training's OK but the paperwork is not. I haven't applied for mine, but I carry when I leave my house anyway. I'm sure most of the congregation would faint if they knew I brought mine into the church. LOL
Gun-related legislation
Several states are considering new gun laws. Among the proposals:
Giving citizens the right to carry concealed handguns:
Illinois, Nebraska
Banning assault weapons or strengthening an existing ban:
Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington
Banning .50-caliber rifles:
Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Washington
Closing the gun show loophole by requiring all gun buyers to undergo background checks:
Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Washington
Expanding the rights of citizens to carry concealed handguns:
Alabama, Arizona, Indiana, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia
Sources: National Rifle Assn.; Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence; Centers for Disease Control; Federal Bureau of Investigation
I'd like some details on any Texas AWB. That would be a laugh.
