Weren't Bills of Attainder in effect bills that convicted an individual of an offense, incarcerated them, penalized them, etc?
This is not that type of bill. Lots of private bills exist. This is something between that and a regular bill. Heck, time was of the essence - cut them some slack....

Am I the only one uncomfortable with the idea of a law written for one person?
If you want to feel uncomfortable, push yourself away from food and water for 7 days. Then perhaps someone will join you in your discomfort. Life trumps discomfort.

The temporary reinsertion of the feeding tube is a given now under the circumstances. They'll wake up some judge and the judge will allow the tube. It's just a matter of time, and hopefully not too much time! The impending investigation will be veeeeeery interesting!

Um, why isn't this an unconstitutional Bill of Attainder? I was wondering about that myself.
I'm a bit worried about this, but only because Michael Schiavo could - h-ll, will! - use this to challenge the law's validity, assuming that he has standing. OTOH, this could work out in the long run - Terri's life is saved, she gets the care and therapy and she needs, and she finally gets the tests that will determine how she ended up in he current state. If the law is overturned, well, I have a feeling that by Michael Schiavo will no longer be eligible to be her guardian due to his fleeing the country or indictment, and no precedent is set that the Demonrats can use help the guilty.

Here's my letter:
Dear Mr. President:
I just learned that you signed a bill into law that serves to protect a disabled woman by the name of Terri Schiavo.
Good work on short notice.

Good point. I thought your concern may have been precedence. I consider this a good precedent--though not likely to happen again in that it mobilizes the Congress of the US so rapidly.

It strips him of his 'right' as Terri's guardian. Yes, it does deprive Michael of his "property", but per the 13th Amendment, he never really had the title he claimed.

I believe that one of the reporters said that this sort of ruling is used once or twice a year to affect immigration cases.
The court would not "sentence" Terri to death. I would decide that Judge Greer was right and Micael Schiavo is her guardian and entitled to exercise substituted judgement.

It's a law that applies to one person, and one person only -- and could result in a federal court sentencing her to death. Sorry, but that's unconstitutional.
You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Stop making stuff up.

It's a Bill of Attainder against Michael Shiavo in a way sin't it? It strips him of his 'right' as Terri's guardianNo. Neither is it an ex post facto law, although I'm sure someone will be trying to make that claim as well.
Courts act to strip people of their rights as guardians or parents every day.
