Continuation of Terri Schiavo daily March threads. Due to overwhelming participation we reached over 5000 posts in three days time!
He didn't. He was nominated for a Nobel. You can submit anyone for a Nobel prize. It doesn't mean they'll be considered.
You mean to Atlanta? It sounds right, Theodore, but those who know more than I say only a ruling can bring on an appeal. BTW, Delay and the others said all the legal minds on the Congressional staffs told them a Federal judge would never starve Terri while he dithers. Said they consulted with all their lawyerly staffers and with the Justice Dept. also. Then lo and behold, the very first judge with the responsibility to preserve Terri while her case is tried de novo, does exactly what everyone swore a Federal judge would not. I just can't get over how certain they all were that this wouldn't happen. I wonder if heads will roll because of this. It gets to me right where I live. I am incredulous because I believe they really believed what they said. And incredulous that a Federal judge doesn't mind in the least doing such a publicly horrible act. Further, he is not following the law in its intent from Congress. You can doubledog bet he is not. Question is, will anyone do anything about it?
I'm usually optimistic too:') Praying for this judge.
I agree with you! I'm not defending this judge; I'm just telling you I believe there's reason to hope he may end up ruling the way we want him to.
I think he has to go by the law sadly. This Whittemore Judge knows Terri's life is in the balance. He has no heart if he doesn't render his decision tonight!
No judge wants to be overturned on appeal so I am sure whatever he decides he will make sure all his ducks are in a row in that opinion and that could take time. My understanding was that this was submitted de novo today. Is this judge looking at the old records? I am thinking since this is a trial court, albeit a federal district court, they are hearing a denovo case and if they rule against Terri, the appeal would then be sent to the 11th...however, Gibbs said, he was there to argue the reinsertion of the feeding tube only and not the entire case...so all that this judge is supposed to do is grant in favor of the tube back in, or not. If put back in, the civil rights case would be the denovo case for Terri and that would be a trial by Jury. If sustained, Gibbs will file in the 11th (appeal) and they could order the reinsertion of the tube and then would remand back to the trial court (tampa) to grant the denovo trial.
Terry may be giving her life so Bush will be able to appoint juctices and judges without democrat interference from the fillibuster.
Greer was part of the filing. There was a restraining order filed to put the tube back in. Greer was named in the restraining order. So was hospice I believe. This was said several hundred posts ago.
I posted to you that legally, he can't file an appeal until the judge rules. That's what I read and hear from experts, anyway.
I am just saying that if a judge refused a murderer food and water until he decided his fate, he would be in jail himself.
Thank you utahagen. You certainly would have more insight than the rest of us. Hope you are right.
so what is your opinion on the constitutionality of the terri bill? So many are saying it will be ruled unconstitutional.
Vatican City - The Roman Catholic Church condemned on Monday legal attempts in the United States to allow a brain-damaged woman to die after 15 years in a semi-vegetative state, saying "the agony of Terri (Schiavo) is the agony of humanity"."Who can, and on what grounds, decide who should be allowed the 'privilege' of living?" the official Vatican paper L'Osservatore Romano asked rhetorically in a commentary on the case, which has become a political issue addressed personally by US President George W Bush.
"The slow and terrible agony of Terri is today an agony of the meaning of God ... the agony of the love shown by whoever is able to care for whoever is the most vulnerable. It is the agony of humanity," the paper added.
* * * Schiavo - who was "on the brink of death from hunger and thirst" - was being denied not just medicine, therapy or palliative treatment, but "for the most elementary reasons of humanism something which would not be refused to the most wretched individual", food and water, the paper said.

Totally agree! I'm sure Delay and his guys are shocked that this judge is letting this happen. I know they were honest when they said a Judge wouldn't let Terri starve to death while trying to make a decision. But here we are! I think we are all shocked, I am! I am sickened!
I think at some point all of us have wondered what God's plan is but I think about David and his son. He kept praying for his childs life until God called the child home. I do the same for Terri. She's alive so I continue to pray.
Michael knows Terri's not PVS. His actions prove it. Felos knows too. Greer's actions suggest he does as well.
That's why they all need her dead. Or else to dehydrate her enough to ensure that her condition afterward cannot be correlated with her condition before [in either direction].
In other words, if Terri is rehydrated and starts gabbing, some doctor can testify that the dehydration must have somehow improved her condition, letting Michael off the hook for the fact that he was sandbagging it before.
I am sad that we have to question our judicial system so much...but we do. It is sad that we can't trust them to do the right thing. They have gotten to a point where they think THEY are above all...including God.
Once again, our side always underestimates how cruel and sick they really are.
