Who heads your GOP dream ticket? (Tancredo whacking Limbaugh in online presidential poll)
WorldNetDaily ^ | 3/20/05 | WorldNetDaily

In another sign Americans are looking for outlets to express their concerns over illegal immigration, Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., is handily beating conservative icon Rush Limbaugh in an online poll on who would make the best Republican candidate for president in 2008.

Tancredo is the chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus and a leader of those calling for immediate and dramatic policy changes to restrict illegal traffic over the borders. Limbaugh is America's most popular radio talk-show host with more than 20 million listeners every week and is considered a kingmaker for the Republican Party.

The poll is organized by a St. Louis Republican survey company that specializes in automated polling. Survey Saint Louis has been commissioned by Bush-Cheney '04, the Republican National Committee and several statewide candidates in Missouri.

The Tancredo-Limbaugh match-up is part of the company's "Presidential March Madness" sweepstakes that began March 17 with pair-ups of 64 possible candidates for the GOP nomination in 2008. In the first round, Tancredo beat Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., 73.9 percent to 26.1 percent with more than 2,000 votes cast. Early voting in the Tancredo vs. Limbaugh contest showed the congressman with an even bigger percentage.

Tancredo has been the biggest vote-getter in the contest to date.

Each day through April 4, new surveys winnow the candidates down to one mock GOP nominee.

In the first round, Rudy Giuliani defeated Gary Bauer, Newt Gingrich knocked off Bob Ehrlich, John Sununu overcame Jack Kemp, Rick Santorum beat Christi Todd Whitman, Dennis Hastert over Mike Rounds, Mitt Romney undermined Dan Quayle, Tom Ridge beat Dirk Kempthorne, George Pataki defeated Craig Benson, Norm Coleman whipped John Kyl, Tommy Franks conquered John Thune, Haley Barbour bounced J. Kennet Blackwell, Lindsey Graham over Chuck Hagel, Marc Racicot over Bob Taft and Pat Buchanan over Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Bill Frist, Sean Hannity, Tom Coburn, Mitch Daniels, Elizabeth Dole, Colin Powell, Tommy Thompson, Jeb Bush, Condoleezza Rice, Roy Blunt, Chuck Grassley, Sam Brownback, Bill Owens, Tim Pawlenty, J.C. Watts and George Allen all advanced to a second round scheduled for tomorrow.

" Which is exactly what you are doing - Saying GWB is a threat to our..."

I know exactly what I'm saying. What would you say if your local Police Chief told officers to not enforce local, state and federal laws or to apprehend those guilty of breaking laws? In all probably you would want his head served up on a platter. What? Don't enforce the law? The moment the Police Chief turns his head to those that do not obey the law becomes a threat to the safety and security of those he was hired or elected to protect. GWB has done EXACTLY that. He has turned a blind eye to those that enter our country illegally and to those businesses that employee those illegals.

Bush is simply another political hack that has no real concern about our country. He unfortunately has his own agenda and it isn't domestic policy.

Simply amazing how folks like you will stand in line for the party punch. Drink up!!!

Make mine a double please. I love Dubya. He has done an amazing amount of good for the party, the country, and the world. God Bless President George W Bush!

Tancredo isn't big enough to fill Dubya's shoes with 10 layers of socks.

The invasion of illegals is more than a single issue...it's an issue about lawlessness, economics, society and culture.

It's a floor polish and a desert topping! It's all things to some people.

" Tancredo isn't big enough to fill Dubya's shoes with 10 layers of socks."

Personally I could care less about Tancredo...As for filling GWB's shoes....sorry bud but his shoes are covered with bull crap.

I suppose you enjoy the Kennedy education for your children, the massive expansion of government entitlements, botched national security, illegals pooring over the borders, campaign finance reform and DEBT, DEBT and more DEBT. Yup, ol' GWB is the best thing since sliced bread </sarcasm>.

Sorry, we simply can't afford another "conservative" like Bush.

Some of your complaints are vapid.

But even if I granted that your complaints were logical...and I don't...they are outweighed by many other accomplishment you cannot seem to recall.

Ashcroft......what an ASH!!!!!!

But anyway, I'm not sure if his health is all that great, is it? Hasn't he had some problems recently?

I like the plain-talkin Schwarzkopf, as well as Tommy Franks, who seems to be very down-to-earth, too...but Buchanan & Tancredo has more of an understanding of our Constitution & individual liberty than ANY of the people included in this "March Madness" Presidential selection run-off...& their staunch commitment to protecting our borders means a LOT more to me as well.

Correct.

He could prove otherwise by running for Governor in 2006 and winning. I'll believe it when I see it.

I think my dream ticket, as of right now, would probably be Jeb + Thune/Owens/Frist/Rice or any one of several others, but anyhow, I don't think Jeb will run, so whatever.

He's also got a lot of understanding on how WW2 was none of our business, and how Isreal < Palestine and WOT = getting out of the middle east.

No thanks. Not even for dogcatcher.

....."Rush has said many times that to want that position"....

I know you are right, but can you imagine the apoplexy(sp?) the left would have if he strung them along for a couple of months? Some of the people would ACTUALY got to Canada instead of just talk about it. A few slit wrists here, a couple of jumpers there, and we might get our country back.

Buchanan's RIGHT about WWII--if FDR had minded his own business, Pearl Harbor never would have happened. FDR was itchin' to help his friend "Uncle Joe" (his words) Stalin, & wanted America to get involved BIG TIME. Read what Sen. Taft (R-OH) & other folks in the Old Right had to say about it.

I'm not all that familiar w/ Buchanan's views on Israel, except that he opposes foreign aid to Israel (& so do I)...'cuz foreign aid to ANY country, even those we love, are UNCONSTITUTIONAL. The Constitution doesn't give Congress the power to send our tax $ to foreign governments, regardless of who they are.

Gallstones, but what matter of health or electability when your choosing a dream team. From your choice I figured this was a given.

Buchanan & Tancredo has more of an understanding of our Constitution & individual liberty than ANY of the people included in this "March Madness" Presidential selection run-off...& their staunch commitment to protecting our borders means a LOT more to me as well.

I know. Do you think Buchanan is thinking about runing again? In 08 he's gonna be 70 that would tie him as the oldest President ever elected if he won.

Hmmmmm...so it was gallstones, huh? I've had my gall bladder removed, so I can sympathize w/ him. But unlike him, mine was done in 1988, so my belly looks like a cutting board, lol--& the doc didn't get all of the gall stones out & I had another attack the day b4 I was scheduled to go home, & I had to be cut open again!

I didn't know Pat was reaching 70...I love the guy, & he is a hero in my eyes. I don't know if he'll be welcomed back into the GOP, will he? I was pretty PO'd when I heard Sen. John McCain say "Thank God & Greyhound he's gone" after Pat left the party. I can't tell you the proper words I'd like to use for my thoughts about McCain--it ain't very polite.

"Most of the expansion of government entitlements is out of Dubya's control."

Have you heard of the term "VETO". It's obvious GWB's never heard of the term.

"The education bill wasn't great but it had some good things like tasting and standards and it was better than doing nothing."

I guess throwing money into a failed education system is a good thing. His directions in education "reform" in Texas is soon to cost the taxpayers new taxes.

"CFR was sent to Dubya by the Republican controlled Congress and demanded by the people. It has not deterred political speech and the SCOTUS had..."

Once again does the term VETO come to mind?

" Debt happens during times of war. Compared to WW2 we are being frugal."

Frugal my arse!!! New spending every day!!! This country is in DEBT.

Bush may be a republican but he sure as hell isn't a conservative. Go ahead, drink the party punch. Be led like lemmings...the cliff's edge is closer than you might thing.

" You weren't yelling about illegals 6+ years ago, when X42 was in office."

I lived in Sierra Vista AZ six years ago...I was raising hell then. Unfortunately at that time there was a democrat in office as president. Upholding our nation's laws didn't seem to matter much to him. Appears GW's attitude about our laws isn't any better than Bill's. Sad it is...very sad.

"Debt happens during times of war. Compared to WW2 we are being frugal."

I for one don't mind the debt, especially because interest rates are so low. What I question is when the nation is at war, adding a bunch of new spending and a new entitlement seems insane.

But the question that comes up is, if we don't continue to expand the government it seems we would be voted out of office. Imagine Kerry in the 2004 election if there had been no perscription drug bill.. Kerry would have 'carried' all the seniors and most likely taken the election handily.

So we end up with death by many cuts, instead of a few big ones inflicted by the Dems.. But what choice is there I guess?

I think many Republicans were happy to see him go and I doubt he would be nicely received again. Buchanan burned a lot of Republican bridges in 2000 when he ran under the Reform party ticket. Even some of his strongest supporters were taken aback by his chumming around with Lenora Fulani. You don't hear Rush fondly reminicing about the 1992 primaries much lately, but he was pretty enamored of Buchanan until Bush locked up the nomination. Many Republicans who are not angry with Buchanan are loath to embrace him because he has been vilified by the MSM and his ability to attract moderate and non-ideological voters is limited. Personally I think Buchanan is all about Buchanan. I think he had a personal grudge against Bush41 and it continues till today. I doubt Buchanan would run again unless it was against Jeb Bush.

I wouldn't vote for Buchanan in a primary and I'd have a hard time voting for him for any general election because I don't think he would represent the people if it conflicted with his opinion. IMO A leader has to convince the people to follow where he leads. I fear Buchanan would lead America without convincing the people. Unless you have a police state it's hard to get the people to do things they don't think are right.
