ACLU will sue over proposed gay marriage ban in TN
AP ^ | 3/18/2005

The proposed state constitutional ban on gay marriage that supporters say will keep the issue out of the hands of a judge is likely headed for a courtroom anyway.

Critics say they will sue to stop plans to amend the Tennessee Constitution, a day after the state House overwhelmingly approved the issue with the idea of putting it in the hands of voters in 2006.

The ACLU of Tennessee says it will pursue litigation to stop the gay marriage ban.

Right now, bans in Georgia, Kentucky and Nebraska are being challenged in court. But so far no court has overturned a proposed constitutional ban on gay marriage.

Representative Bill Dunn, a Republican from Knoxville who ushered the amendment through the state House, says he isn't surprised the ACLU plans on suing to stop the measure.

He says opponents lost in the Senate, the House and will lose with voters. He says their only recourse is to try a lawsuit.

The ACLU opposes voter ID because they claim it "intimidates" the voting rights of minorities. Looks like the ACLU is trying to violate the voting rights of TN.

Not one member of the ACLU executive board has ever been :

(1) a Christian.

(2) a girl or boy scout.

(3) a member of the U.S. Military.

Does that clarify their agenda?

He says opponents lost in the Senate, the House and will lose with voters. He says their only recourse is to try a lawsuit.

Going through the courts is an end run around the Legislature and the will of the people. Liberals have used this route to "make laws" for years, and have gotten away with it because Congress was, and is, too feeble to face down the Judiciary.

Homosexual marriage is a State's Rights issue, and should have no place in the High Court. If the Supremes decide to hear any case involving homosexual marriage they will most likely overrule the individual state's bans on such a marriage. This will of course be an affront to the people, for which the court has little regard, and our congressmen will do nothing to resolve the situation.

It's time to start asking questions of congressmen, when up for election, about their stance on judicial activism, and what they intend to do about it. If they intend to hold to the status quo then they need to be replaced.

OK. I'll bite. What's *really* going on in the Schiavo case?

P.S. On WHAT grounds can the ACLU challenge a proposed constitutional amendment??????

This is alarming, although I do not see the significance

What's really going on? Vis a vis marriage, the "spouse" has some life and death authority, eh?!

You think anyone into the expansive sort of promiscuity just about every homosexual in history has engaged in will put up with that?

All they wanted was "visting rights" at the hospital ~ FUR SHUR they never anticipated this.
