Michael Schiavo: 'Come Down President Bush' (Terri's Husband is Getting Frustrated)

Angered by the lastest political developments in Washington, Michael Schiavo said Saturday that it isn't just the governor who should visit his wife to learn about the case.

'Come down, President Bush,' Schiavo said in a telephone interview. 'Come talk to me. Meet my wife. Talk to my wife and see if you get an answer. Ask her to lift her arm to shake your hand. She wont do it.'

She won't, Shiavo said, because she can't.

He made a similar offer last week to Florida Governor Jeb Bush saying lawmakers interfering in his wife's life know nothing about the case.

So far, Governor Bush has not responded to the offer. President George W, Bush has said he will sign any federal legislation that will keep Terri Schiavo alive.

Michael Schiavo also said that US Congressional House Majority Leader Tom Delay is a 'little slithering snake' pandering for votes.

'To make comments that Terri would want to live, how do they know?' Schiavo said of the members of Congress who want to keep Terri alive.

'Terri died 15 years ago,' referring to the collapse and cardiac arrest that doctors say virtually destroyed her brain. It's time for her to be with the lord like she wanted to be.'

"We have only hearsay by an interested party to tell us about Terri's wishes."

An "interested party"? He's her HUSBAND for cripes sake!

That should be enough. But in this case, there were two others she told, one of them her best friend, who both testified under oath that Terri told them the same thing she told Michael.

Now what? Do you still insist that "We don't know Terri's wishes at all"?

I'm starting to believe that talk about something fishy around how Terri ended up this way in the first place. I have to wonder why else a husband would want so badly to end his wife's life.

Would not the settlement check for her care and rehabilitation from the insurance company been based on medical diagnosis?

You know, this is an excellent point. Why was he awarded money for her rehabilitation IF there was no possibility she could be rehabilitated? What WAS the award based on?

If she signed a legal living will she would have been terminated a while ago.
Just because he is her husband does not mean he has her best intereests at heart. He has been proven to be a SPOS and his credibility is shot.
According to your logic we should send back abused kids and spouses to the perpetrators.

No, not in every case does the husband become the guardian. In Sunny von Bulow's case, the children were made guardians and the husband was excluded. There have also been cases where husbands have been ordered not to have any contact with their wife.

That's not as clear cut as Will says it is. Because, if he has not broken the marriage contract, fidelity and all with his co-habitator and kids, then the contract must have been null and void based on her state of incapacitation. If on the other hand his infidelity did break the contract he can't be considered sole arbiter. They can't have it both ways, IMO.

Actually, I understand your point quite well. You, it seems, do not understand mine. If the argument against congressional interference is based on "common law" regarding marriage, it is certainly pertinent that MS has violated the sanctity of his own marriage by taking a common law wife. according to common law, MS is "one" with his current "wife". as such, he canot also continue to be "one" with Terri

My response didn't seem to answer your question? You read my essay and Johansen's article that fast? Or had you already read them?

I'm not Howlin but I did read the entire editorial you cite yesterday. I'm guessing the author had a strong opinion on this issue before he wrote the piece and cherry-picked opinions that agreed with his, as he does leave out some important aspects medically. This isn't to say he's right or wrong, just that anyone taking this editorial as gospel is probably doing themselves a disservice.

When she went into the hospital in the first place, she must have filled a resuscitate or DNR form. Does anyone know the record?

She was unconscious from oxygen deprivation. She couldn't "sign" anything.
