Patti Davis, Ronald Reagans renegade daughter, has an article in the current Newsweek titled Dirty Footprints in which she pleads, We must write letters of outrage to the senators who voted to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). But maybe all there is left to do is weep. When I saw the news today, I sat down and wept.
Davis continues with, President Bush must be feeling so victorious. The Senate has now said yes to drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refugethe pristine place President Eisenhower took measures to protect in 1960.
She laments, Environmental groups have said the fight isnt over, and I want to believe there is still something we can dowrite letters, e-mails, rise up en masse and say no. But I dont know if anything will help at this point. Its possible that the only thing we will be able to do is weepat the devastation of wild, untamed land where caribou are free to breed and give birth far away from the harm that humans bring. Where polar bear are a common sight and where cars and trucks and engines are never heard. Where people are outnumbered by the vast numbers of birds and animalssafe for the moment, but soon to be doomed.

Poor Patty Davis. Her daddy's dead and gone. She is nothing but a frumpy old hippie. Who is interested in her self-pitying tears?
We also have to put flags (like used car lots) over the reserve pit to keep waterfowl from landing there, and fence around the pit to keep animals from drinking out of it. All required on Federal leases. Go Figure.
And just what the hell is wrong with placing the ANWR caribou into Mastadon status...if it meant ensuring you could fill up your gas tank without long lines and at say $2.50 a gallon?
No!! It can't be!!! Don't you realize that caribou-type critters won't reproduce in oil producing areas !!!! YOU MUST BE KARL ROVE!!!!
And to be serious, the notion that oil drilling will somehow harm the fauna of north Alaska has long been debunked. Heck, wildlife is flourishing around Chernobyl
Cry us a river Patti! According to the map I saw of how much of ANWR that will be open to drilling under this bill it is the equivalent of drilling two counties in Texas and leaving the rest of the state for caribu and polar bear orgies.
If the total combined common sense among the liberal left was alcohol, it wouldn't even give a gnat a buzz.
Sometimes, I'd swear the critters just came out of curiosity.
We counted seven bighorn sheep perched on a ledge above the rig south of Medora, ND on one well, who stayed in the area for three days, just watching. It was pretty neat.
As for Chernobyl, I don't think the humans are as thick there as they used to be...(8^D)
That is true. This is a pretty cool site w/pixs of the area.
"...and I weep for all the species that were never created because they don't exist and never will..and I weep for that last Passenger Pigeon that slipped on his own poop in 1903...and I nash my teeth and wail because...."
Look in the mirror and read my tagline out loud. Substitute "I'm" for "you're". Repeat as needed everytime your alligator mouth overrides your hummingbird ass.
I knew Chernobyl was a substantial disaster, but that really brings it home...20 years (almost) after. Thanks for the link.
