I was surfing The Highroad this morning with a nice hot cup of coffee and ran across this. Pretty good article.

Sounds like portions of the Bahamas off Haiti. A mini-14 is a good weapon. Problem is the Bahamians like to search, board, and keep what ever they want. An acquaintance of mine was fishing over there, in the bahamas, not too long ago, we are only 60miles from their waters, illegally. They were boarded by the Bahamians "defence" patrol and one "officer" ripped off the most expensive rod and reel on the boat. Someone said something(stooopid) and got bashed in the face by a bahams officer. Nuff said.

A simple shotgun at close range with the right load is a simple, but very effective defensive weapon.
Great story. These Muhammadan terorists should stick to riding camels and raiding camel caravans. Muhammad didn't leave any instructions on how to terrorize on the open sea.

An M1A (.308 caliber) would be a great help in a situation like this. Most of the pirates are probably using AK's in 7.62x39 mm, a much less powerful cartridge. The .308 could engage them at a greater range and more accurately.

12 guage good up close....BUT...They would have no problem whatsoever if they carried a 50 calibre rifle.....flat tragectory for about a mile and will penetrate just about anything.

The first shotgun I ever fired was an 8 gauge. Every time I read of this stuff happening, I think of that old goose gun.

Who in their right minds would be sailing a couple of yachts in a pirate-infested area of the Gulf of Aden?

The bow of the pirate boat came right up against Gandalfs stern and two men stood up on the bow with guns to board Gandalf. That was a serious and probably fateful error on their part. I shot both of them.

WOW! Amazing story. The report is excellent, and it appears to be as he stated, a well organized attempt at piracy. The pirates were only done in because they chose to board too soon, unaware that an American yacht might be armed, and might fight back! Against typical unarmed Euro yachties, they would have had another fun night of murder, rape and robbery. No doubt the pirates were overeager to begin the festivities. As the writer stated, they could have stayed off at rifle range and shot the sailboats to pieces before boarding.
