You know--the husband claims that she is a vegetable--which would mean that she doesn't have a clue about what is going on--and if that is true, then she isn't bothered by her parents and brother and sister wanting to be with her and help her--so he has no reason to think that TERRI IS UPSET--

The only way that her husband can claim that this is "distressing to Terri" that she is being kept alive against her wishes, would be if she IS aware of it--and if she IS aware of it, then she isn't a vegetable so therefore, he has no right to kill someone that is cognizant of what is going on---

Case closed

But that's the hypocrisy. The feminists are silent as a male, an "evil" husband takes control over her body and her life. If Terri was pregnant the husband would have NO control over her body if she wanted an abortion.

Clearly Hildy needs to dehumanize Terri and people like her to feel comfortable advocating death. Perhaps this betrays a slight discomfort? I'd like to see someone mesmerized by cult of death mentality treat Terri with human dignity. Hildy, if my dog was badly injured, could I starve it to death? Or would that be INHUMANE?

However, aren't we dealing with romantics in that if one has a living will the removal of a feeding tube would not be considered murder...it would be considered fulfilling the patients wishes (will)

Dr. Kervorkian is still in prison (and rightly so).

You cannot legally will or consent to be murdered.

The right answer is, 1) It's not murder to remove a feeding tube, unless, 2) You do so with intent or design to benefit personally from doing so.

This actually is a big issue in end-of-life discussions every day, with or without a so-called "living will".

I read "living wills" every week, and most of them are worthless (except insofar as they appoint a decisionmaker). When that decisionmaker has a personal interest in the death of the "living will" author, it becomes quite complicated.

This case is a nightmare.

My opinion is that either Michael Schiavo should be arrested and charged, or the State should butt out.

What are you talking about? For years Michael searched for anything that would help Terri. There was a lawsuit, meaning there were many, many evaluations on her condition.

I'm sure he (ed: Teddy K) could live off himself for a long while but with nothing to "drink" he'd be in real trouble soon.

Yeah, I understand that the DT's are hell.

I guess the "meaness" of FR is worse than being starved to death in her/his opinion--

You want haste in the death of another person.

Hasn't it been something like 17 years?

Some OT, some NT. He came to fulfil the Law. Now we have a New Covenant. Whether it supersedes or perfects the old seems to be still under debate, but the fact is we have a lot of trouble knowing what to do in many circumstances.

He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He did come and did fulfil the law. The law of God is perfect (Psalm 19:7), He wrote it. The Pharasees used it unlawfully like many false preachers do today.

The Hippocratic Oath is ancient, but still a guideline.

God's word is older and isn't a guideline but the standard by which we will all be judged. Whether we believe it or not, doesn't matter, we will be judged by His standard.

What is the harm feeding a helpless person?

I don't think we disagree.

WOW...I hate to resort to namecalling, but that had to be one of the stupidest things I've read on these boards, and I've seen some pretty stupid things.

I think C-span needs to invest in some new music for the quorum calls, I know I've heard this piece about a dozen times.

I'VE NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THE DISABLED. NEVER. I'm talking about a woman who is legally brain dead. I'll be damned if I going to let you and others continue to misrepresent, for your own agenda, my words.
