ORLANDO, Fla. -- An agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency was been suspended after video surfaced showing the man shooting himself during a gun safety class in front of a group of Orlando fourth-graders, according to Local 6 News.
An investigation has been launched to determine who leaked the home video of the undercover DEA agent shooting himself at an event sponsored by the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association.
Before the shooting, the agent was videotaped talking about how certain weapons are popular with rap artists.
"This is a Glock 40," the agent said on the tape. "Fifty Cent, Too Short, all of them talk about a Glock 40, OK?," he said. "I'm the only one in this room professional enough that I know of to carry this Glock 40."
Seconds later, the agent shot himself in the foot.
"See how that accident happened, that could happen to you and you could be blown away," the agent said after the shooting.
Experts in the field said that the undercover agent should never have been videotaped because it could put the agent's life at risk, Local 6 News reported.
"It puts a lot of undercover agents in jeopardy if their faces are videotaped," the masked agent told Local 6 News. "His identity is burned. His identity is known as a police officer and its a potential personal safety hazard to himself as well as his family members."
The video of the shooting is posted on several Web sites on the Internet. The video shows the shooting and the agent's face.
Local 6 News did not show the entire video of the shooting because the undercover officer could be identified in some of the shots.
Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
I have seen the video, and with a strong dose of self-promotional bravado, the agent had a negligent discharge.
Imho, the agent is sufficient risk to his own life, without any help.
THe only 'unstable weapon' in the video was the agent, imo.
Yes this gun is known to be unstable by the fBI. http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2000/01/glock.html
The Glock handgun has a storied history of going off unexpectedly
This is like starting an article off with the statement, "All dogs flying F15's".
Maybe somebody else will read the article.
Do they still print trash written by Josh Sugarmann.
I can't read past "Mother Jones".......
Right here you go!
The Glock, like any other modern combat handgun, will ONLY "go off" if you press the trigger to the rear with a round in the chamber of the weapon.
Anyone that says otherwise is full of crap.
I read your article, and here is some of what I found:
the Washington DC Police Department alone had had 120 accidental firings, 19 officers had wounded themselves or others with Glocks
five Louisville police guns fired accidentally
After 100 bullets were fired in stopping a robbery in the Bronx in 1995, New York City police officials briefly investigated "overfiring" of the Glock but decided to keep it anyway. (I suppose we are to believe that the evil Glock reloaded itself 10 times and kept on firing by itself!)
I've never known ANYONE who had a Glock and had a negligent discharge. Then again, all of the gunowners I know are intelligent, well trained, and competent. Unlike the police "experts".
The problem isn't the gun. It's the idiots using the gun.
Life is too short to even click on a link to Mother Jones. I could care less what those hippy dippy shits have to say about anything, much less firearms.
Regarding the original article in this thread, my question is: Can the federal government, in this case represented by the DEA, be any more arrogant?
They are not concerned that Mr. Rastahair violated every rule of firearms safety in his firearms safety demonstration.
They are not concerned that this obvious Affirmative Action case was using a loaded gun in a room full of children to demonstrate firearms. (Any firearms used in the demonstration should have been cleared outside the room and no ammunition for those demonstration guns should have been anywhere near them during the demonstration.)
They are not concerned that their agency is being represented by a barely literate doofus with no public speaking experience.
They are not concerned that this imbicile could easily have shot children instead of himself with his ND.
No. They are concerned that someone videotaped it.
This event happened last April from what I originally heard. Now, almost a year later and only after the video goes public do they suspend him.
These are the same sorts that are "ensuring the safety of the American public" during the WOT.
The bottom line, Mr. and Mrs. America, is that you are on your own, because these assclowns don't have sense enough to pour piss out of a boot.
I would only add that the statist thugs who turn a blind eye to incompetence amongst their own ranks, are the same ones that would be the first to prosecute Joe Q Citizen for the "crime" of peaceably carrying a gun on school property.
What's even worse is that many "Americans" would applaud them every step of the way.
that video has been on fark.com and is kinda old....he just NOW got in trouble over it????
So this gun is more sophisticated than some number of police. Humm
Better be careful. The "Mother Jones" (a known firearms expert) barficle that I read said that a Glock once shot 100 rounds off by accident.
So maybe these evil Glocks have evolved. Not only can they "go off" by themselves, they can now apparently change magazines automatically.
It isn't human. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pain. It's unstoppable!!!
What? Rephrase and try again.
Exactly the point. The feds apparently don't have a problem with some bozo having an ND in a school. Their problem is one of the peasants taped it, and now it's all over the internet.
If yer reading that trash on the glock at that link and "believing" it then slowly and carefully put down every sharp, pointy or edged weapon and or firearm ya got and get some education..........Your comment's, that link and it's contents are clearly disinformational, and just wrong.
That clown should never have been an agent. He should be fired for discharging a firearm in a classroom.
I was on a ride along about ten years ago...and these units were looking for a forgery suspect. Anyway, the Sgt I was hanging with stopped by on the perimeter...and in about three seconds some lady deputy was pointing her Beretta at me!
It didnt really hit me until a little later....when I got weak in the knees.
The Sgt said she was just out in the field that past week. I said she should be put back in the custody division.
I think he ignored or violated all five of Cooper's rules:
http://www.thefiringline.com/Misc/safetyrules.html
RULE I: ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
RULE II: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY
RULE III: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
RULE IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET
