I'm sorry. Sorry King Richard of England didn't re-take Jerusalem from Saladin.

I'm sorry. I'm sorry King Saul didn't rid the world of the Amalekite tribes when he drove them out of Avaris.

The Jerusalem Cross, also known as the Crusaders Cross and the Five-Fold Cross, is comprised of Greek and Tau crosses. Four Tau crosses meet in the center creating a Greek cross. Four additional Greek crosses, one in each corner, make a total of five crosses.

The Jerusalem Cross was employed as an emblem by the Crusaders. Godfrey de Bouillon, who became the first ruler of Jerusalem after it was captured from the Moslems in 1099, wore the Jerusalem Cross as his symbol.

"You recall that George Bush began his counter-attack on the Muslim fanatics on October 7, 2001."

How could I ever forget? I was surprised at how many people did not make the connection.

Sheikh Fawzi Zafzaf? Central casting for a Three Stooges movie couldn't come up with a more comical moniker. As for his nonsensical demand for a papal apology, this kindly and truly great pope has a heart big enough to forgive even this blowhard. He is probably humble enough to apologize, but that wouldn't diminish the gall of ol' Fawzi. Perhaps Sheikh Zafzaf wants to: atone for the Nazi collusion of the Grand Mufti, the desecration of Hagia Sophia, the Armenian genocide, the subjugation of Spain, the rape of the Balkans, the Siege of Vienna, the flaying of Bragadino, the Munich Olympic massacre, the butchery at Lockerbie, rail Madrid, and Famagusta, the infernos of WTC 1 and WTC 2, the murder on Achille Lauro, the rivers of blood in the Hindu Kush, the handiwork of the Assassins, Ummayyads and Abbasids, the slave-trading of the Barbary pirates, endless hostage-taking, decapitation, and ransoming of innocents, the brutal misogyny of the Taliban and their destruction of Buddhist antiquities, or the Beslan atrocity. These are but a few provocations that spring to mind. Apology?...We should rain down steel and fire on Damascus, Mecca and Teheran, the way they did on lower Manhattan. The haughty zealousness of this fool provokes wrath.

Dear Charles: I like your moniker, since Charles Martel is one of my heroes. We need another such as he. The hordes of Muhammed are even now sharpening their swords across the Pyrennes. I think they believe they are in an excellent strategic position. We do not need another battle of Tours, however, but a coup d'grass at the very seat of their blood thirsty god.

I'm sorry the Crusades weren't more successful at repulsing agressive Islam...

Thomas F. Madden, author of "A Concise History of the Crusades," contends the Crusades "were in every way a defensive war." "They were the West's belated response to the Muslim conquest of fully two-thirds of the Christian world," he wrote in a National Review column. "While the Arabs were busy in the seventh through the tenth centuries winning an opulent and sophisticated empire, Europe was defending itself against outside invaders and then digging out from the mess they left behind. Only in the eleventh century were Europeans able to take much notice of the East. "

The demand for an apology is the definition of chutzpah.

As the self-appointed spokesman for my main man, JP II, let me make the following apology:

We Christians do so apologize for invading your desert paradise, even though, to be honest, you did invade us first. If I recall properly, Muslim invaders were already overrunning Spain, Portugal and parts of France in the 740's A.D.. If memory serves, the first Crusade was called in 1096, so you must please forgive us for being 350 years or so late in returning the favor; It was incredibly rude of us to refrain from slaughtering you in the same numbers in which you slaughtered us while allowing 300+ years to lapse.

I also apologize for the Second Crusade, which actually fell upon Constantinople, another Christian kingdom (a predisposition in the Germans, I'm afraid), and which hastened that Empire's demise, making it somewhat easier pickings for your frenzied hordes some 400 years later. If that hadn't have happened, you would have lost tens of thousands more true believers in an attempt to take the city. I gather there are millions of virgins unaccompanied in Heaven because we robbed you of the right to die for Allah against a stronger Byzantine Empire.

We would also like to extend our sincere regrets that while you were so thoughfully destroying the 'infidel' knowledge of Alexandria while simultaneously returning it to us under your own copyright, that we have not been sufficiently grateful. After all, the world might never have known of Herodotus, Aescalus, Pythagoras, Aristotle, Thucydides, Maimonodes (sp?), or Avicenna, all Greeks rooted in the Western Tradition had you not so thoughtfully and unselfishly returned them to us. I'm sure not one copy of their works survived anywhere except in Egypt. Thank you for returning what was so evidently ours.

We furthermore apologize that while we did, in fact, learn to bathe more often from you, that we did not make more of an effort to remind you (or the French) of the benefits of daily washing when, several centuries later, European Christians returned to colonize and...ahem...exploit former Ottoman conquests between World Wars. We further apologize that such conquests were made by your own people supplied by Christian powers with Christian money and arms.

I would like to extend a very heartfelt and sincere apology that while you have given the world such wonderful things such as human bombs, the suicide video, beheading, the burkah, and other such fantastic inventions that have enriched the planet and immeasurably improved life for all of humankind, we have been only able to offer the Tomahawk, the Daisy Cutter, and the Green Beret in return. This, of course, only after you rejected our very poor offerings of civilization, democracy, open heart surgery, refrigeration, capitalism, the printing press, computers, space flight, abundant yet cheaply-produced foodstuffs, cable and sattelite television, soap, indoor plumbing, sewage, genetic engineering, the MRI and CAT scan, the internal combustion engine, air conditioning, and the Twinkie. It was awful of us to attempt to raise your standard of living and improve your quality of life while ignoring your culture of death and repressive, and slave-like devotion to a third-rate imitation of the God-we-all-follow, and who was somehow invented by those darn Jews you hate so much and yet still claim descent from. Conspiraies often work that way, you know?

It was so incredibly insensitive for us to help you extract petroleum products from the earth, which seems no mean feat since such stuff normally percolates up on it's own, but which you were apparently unable to do for yourselves, an which brought such fabulous wealth to the peoples of your land, and yet stood idly by (with your consent) while robber barons who claim to be "of the people" and "of the book", yet who are worse than any Western industrial exploiter yet recorded, continue to spend such wealth on Lear Jets, Rolls-Royces and American blondes in the sinful Meccas (no pun intended) of Las Vegas, Monte Carlo or, lest we forget, The United Arab Emirates.

The entire Western wolrd weeps when we realize that we should have merely slunk away and minded our own business while you engaged in your "culturally accepted" practices of female circumcision, hostage taking and the stoning of rape victims. How dare we be hypocritical enough to actually protest and make noise when we see activities that normally fill us with a sense of revulsion and which are inimical to our core beliefs? How anti-multi-cultural of us!

Finally, I would like to say that had it not been for the Crusades, we might just have gone thorugh the centuries that followed completely unaware of your presance, which would have meant that we wouldn't have cared if you slept with humpbacked quadrupeds, worshipped a perversion of all that we consider holy, treat your women as chattel slaves and teach your children that the most they can look forward to in life is to commit a spectacular suicide in TNT boxer shorts. Imagine how much better off the Western World would have been had we merely left you alone to degenerate while having to listen to the distant, plaintive wail you would have emitted demanding such things as Western Aid. Speaking of which, we're heartily sorry that we supply Egypt with $2 billion a year because it cannot feed itself, subsidize the Saudi Arabian social services structure with our automobiles, freed Kuwaitis from the second incarnation of Hitler, saved millions of Muslims from other nasty Christians in Yugoslavia, provided arms for you to defend yourselves against the Second Great Curse of Satan (Communism ---Islam was the first), and today have the audacity to repair the damage caused by our own hands in Iraq and help Afghanistan make the great leap forward into the Stone Age.

We really have been very, very naughty...
