Terri Schiavo's Slow Painful Death Begins
NATIONAL LEDGER.COM ^ | MARCH 18, 2005 | JB WILLIAMS

Posted on 03/18/2005 7:06:36 PM PST by freeholland

With the court ordered removal of Terri Schiavo’s feeding tube, begins the slow painful death of not only the valuable life a beautiful defenseless young woman, whose parents cry out for the opportunity to care for her, but also the death of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness as we know it?.!

Not one person on earth can survive without food and water for more than a couple of weeks. If our food and water is taken from any one of us, we will die a slow painful death of starvation.

Yet in Terri Schiavo’s case, food and water is being described as “life support”. While it’s true that food and water is necessary to sustain life, it is no more a form of “life support” than the steak and potato Judge Greer had for dinner last night?

So why is it so important to deny Terri Schiavo her food? Convicted criminals, even captured terrorists are entitled to three square meals a day. Why isn’t Terri? Why now? Why are so many hell bent upon ending her life?

Judge Greer has once again denied Terri the most basic needs for life, at her estranged husband’s demand, at odds with her parents’ wishes, other court orders, the Governor’s interventions, millions of Terri’s supporters and now, both the state and federal legislature’s?

Judge Greer callously legislates from the bench as if he received his diploma from the Dr. Kevorkian School of Law. He must be held accountable for acting upon his own personal ideology, at odds with the laws he is sworn to uphold.

Judges have been legislating their own agendas from the bench for years now; it was only a matter of time before it would mean life and death.

We have officially arrived at the place many of us have been warning about for decades after raising a generation of Americans in an environment that no longer reveres life. After watching as we allowed the senseless murder of more than 40 million innocent infants for convenience sake alone, what did we think that generation would learn?

Liberty and Happiness are only possible for those first allowed the right to live. If we have no right to life, we have no rights at all?

Finally, the time has come when the American people must stand up and demand real justice. Not Hollywood justice, but the kind of justice promised by the real written Constitution of these United States. That promise that says we are ALL “endowed by our Creator”, with certain “inalienable rights”, first among them, the right to LIFE, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Do you think this is all about Terri Schiavo? One woman, wished dead by one husband because he no longer has any use for her? You’d better think again?

There are millions of people sitting in nursing homes across this nation who are unable to feed themselves, bath themselves or communicate with the outside world. The same arguments used to deny food and water to Terri Schiavo would apply to all of them?

If we don’t take a stand for Terri’s right to live, who will take a stand for our loved ones right to food and water?

Why do you think members of congress have gone so far as to use the filibuster to block judicial appointments that would otherwise be confirmed through the Constitutional process? Though they talk about no litmus test, it’s because they most certainly do have a litmus test, and it relates to Roe vs. Wade? Nothing more, nothing less?

If they think a certain judicial nominee would even entertain the idea of overturning Roe vs. Wade, respecting and protecting life, they will block their nomination in committee, never allowing a floor vote, even though the nominee is otherwise well qualified for the appointment. That my friends, is a litmus test?

Why did certain members of congress vote against the passage of Conner’s law, which makes the murder of a pregnant woman a double homicide? Because they are afraid it establishes that inside that pregnant woman is a child, a life, something we are constitutionally obligated to protect? It threatens Roe vs. Wade?

Well guess where we are now? Life, even outside the womb, is now of so little value that even when a Judge orders death by starvation of a defenseless innocent human being, half of the population can’t decide how to feel about that?

Well I can tell you how you should feel about that? Life is the most basic fundamental right of every American. It is the one thing we have no choice but to fight for and the one reason that our constitution speaks of abolishing a government when it is no longer effective in defending the constitution.

Many judges stopped honoring their oath to protect and defend the constitution and the rights it guarantees years ago. Now it has led to a matter of life and death of an innocent human being?

Should we all stand in defense of Terri Schiavo? We must? because there are a million Terri Schiavo’s across this great land.

If you know all the facts of Terri’s case, then you probably believe that her so-called husband has only his own interests in mind and is willing to murder in pursuit of his own happiness. If you don’t know this, then you have been spending too much time watching network news again?

The honorable Judge Greer is the real problem though, for he holds the power of life and death in his hands, he has appointed himself God and he clearly has no respect for life, for parents’ rights, the constitution or the state or federal legislature. He is the self appointed ruler over life? deciding who deserves food and water?

God help us see what is happening to this great nation before our very eyes and grant us the wisdom and courage to rise up together in defense of life? If not now, when?

Can you give us any first hand facts about what happened today? Did Terri cry out? Did she get the Viaticum?

Please see my recent posts. They plan to cremate Terri and destroy all evidence immediately, no autopsy per our blind justice greer.

I haven't lived in Holland for 20 years. I left precisely because of the rampant liberalism, plus invasion of the country which has gone unchecked by the government for at least 4 or 5 decades.

I have embraced America with all of my heart. I could not possibly have succeeded in life without the advantages and opportunities of my adopted country. I adore the United States, and I have always been a strong conservative - by nature.

Just because a person was born in Holland does not automatically mean that he or she is in agreement with the social mores there.

What if all of "Europa" judged every American by the standards of Whoopi Goldberg, Michael Moore and all of the outrageous excesses of the Hollywood crowd?

Our president said, in his RNC convention acceptance speech, "The heart and soul of America is not in Hollywood!" There are thousands of Dutch men and women who represent the heart and soul of The Netherlands, and there always have been such good people. Unfortunately, they are being drowned out by voices (like the ones at Radio City Music Hall last summer) who do not represent the heart and soul of Holland, or speak for the Dutch people.

"free holland" means that I dream of a Holland that will one day be free of the extreme liberalism that is choking it to death.

There is a much more detailed and accurate timeline here:

http://abstractappeal.com/schiavo/WolfsonReport.pdf

This is an official report prepared for Gov. Bush in 2003 when he requested an official inquiry into Terri's condition.

That is YOUR choice - you do not speak for Terri and neither does Michael or Judge Greer.

Agree.

Some are also guided by guilt and by the desire for the ability to freely decide when wealthy relatives must move out of the way.

We must realize not everyone sincerely feels all should have the right to life and the pursuit of happiness - only those more powerful do.

I wonder if it is because this is Florida and there must be a very strong coalition of the death cult.

I noticed that even Rush hemed and hawed today when a caller started making accusations of Michael's motives?

Could he be afraid to taunt the Florida legal system?

No sorry,

Michael has already set up immediate cremation. Sounds like a real loving husband doesn't it? Or, does it sound like murder most foul with state support?

Terri was strong and in good cheer as I left around dusk, got it first hand from the Schindler attorney who just came out. Terri was seated in a reclining chair.

All I can say about the other is she is in good hands as you and I would understand it. Deo gratias.

Gee, what a surprise. Like I have said, if the worst happens, an autopsy should be done. Unfortunately, looks like another one getting away with......, and profiting from it as well. Sickening.

Heaven is awaiting her, with billions of archangels and you clowns want to keep her from it.

Well, heaven was waiting for Lacy Peterson and her unborn child but it happened to be a crime to deliberately hasten their departure.

Some people did not see Scott Peterson as doing his wife and unborn child a big favor by hastening their introduction to the archangels.

Heaven might be your reward, too, but do you want us setting your accelerated departure date and time at OUR earliest convenience?

Maybe it's cruel to keep the elderly from their heavenly reward. Shall we set a specific age for departure to streamline the whole process and send our loved ones on an express train to the archangels?

If heaven is the great reward, why not rush everyone there ASAP? We'd be doing them a favor. What are we waiting for?

From the time Terri was 18, she was no longer the legal responsibility of her parents, and equally, her parents no longer had the right to make legal decisions on her behalf.

While I truly empathize with her parents, having to contend with the heartache of seeing their child go before they do, I just have a hard time understanding why some people are able to demonstrate compassion, humanity, selflessness and maturity in making these types of decisions regarding their pets, yet they remain blinded to their actions that run absolutely to the contrary when it comes to their own flesh and blood.

The only thing that separates humans from the rest of the animal kingdom is what's going on between our ears.

Terri Schiavo is, for all intents and purposes, dead, and has been for 15 years.

I find it rather revolting, selfish behavior to think there's any quality or value to her life that merits prolonging a shell of one's existence merely to reinforce or propagate one's religious beliefs.

With all due respect, her parents are not doctors, and apparently are in such a deep state of denial, that they refuse to acknowledge the medical fact that Terri's cerebral cortex is gone. It was destroyed by the loss of oxygen she suffered when she had a heart attack 15 years ago. Once gone, the cortex cannot grow back. The space it once occupied in Schiavo's skull is now filled with spinal fluid.

The cortex does all our thinking. Some people argue that it's responsible for personhood. Without a cortex, you can't think, feel, have consciousness.

Schiavo is awake but not aware. Parts of her brain that control reflexes and other basic bodily functions still work. So she can sleep, breathe, blink and make the other moves that fuel the faith of those who seek to save her.

Her lack of consciousness is so complete that Schiavo cannot perceive thirst or hunger. She doesn't have the brain structures necessary for that kind of perception.

What you or I would undeniably experience as torture is not what Terri Schiavo will have to suffer through over the next week or so.

And, over the next several days, should there be an indication from her signaling any discomfort, you can rest assured there would be grounds to re-assess the severity of her condition.

This is common everyday practice in hospices throughout America.

Two of my grandparents were terminally ill; one with cancer, the other with advanced Parkinson's, each in their 80's, and both were humanely allowed to die in hospice care, by discontinuing their nourishment.

It is essential that in circumstances such as this, where there is no living will, that federal guidelines and parameters are established to give someone like Michael Schiavo the right to make this decision without the possibility of legal interference from her parents or other parties.

Hopefully, this will trigger a national awareness campaign to encourage all adults, especially those who are married, to have a living will drafted, to ensure our wishes our respected, even if we can no longer speak. This battle between the husband and her parents was avoidable, and there's a lesson to be learned in that.

Let's hope the nine Supreme Court justices, eight of whom are already over 65, will ensure that, when their time comes in the not-too-distant future, that they don't have to endure an existence devoid of any quality of life.

They will be hearing the Oregon physician-assisted suicide case in the court's next term, which begins in October.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/02/22/s...ted.suicide.ap/

If, God forbid, Terri Schiavo is really 'alive' and has been 'in there' all this time for the past 15 years, she would be suffering an unfathomable, vacuous, grueling, interminable, torturous living hell I would never wish upon my worst enemy.

The humane thing is to let her die.

May - Judge Shames approves Schiavo action to remove Terri's nutrition and hydration.

Jul - Schiavo's engagement to Jodi Centonze announced.

I was not aware of this. Engagement in anticipation... of...?

True, but all doctors are licensed to play God. Our society entrusts them with our health; and each day we put our faith in their hands to help us get better and many times to save our lives.

There also comes a time when a doctor has done everything in his power to help and still the patient will not get better.

Terri Schiavo is at that point in time. She will soon be in God's hands.

Au contraire, Mikey has obstructed many, many things that could have helped Terri get better -- at least, to swallow.

Yeah that video is very interesting.
It totally demonstrates that she does react.
Which is why persistent vegatative state as a diagnosis is bulltacko.

Personally I want to be sent off to Valhalla forever if I'm still in an incapacitated state within 3 years of a gross disability.

But thats me, not her.
No one knows what she wants. Her parents want her to keep existing on this plane, they love her dearly and will take good care of her.

Terri's husband appears to be a blowhard who just wants her gone, so he can feel good about getting on with his life.

Even if she really did tell her husband that she wanted to die should she ever be in this state, she doesnt appear to be suffering emotionally.

Watching the videos she looks to be quite comfortable.
To take someone who has at least a modicum of awareness and subject them dehydration induced demise seems quite barbaric.
Nice sleepytime passing for serial killers in our country but not for an innocent woman.
That I don't understand.
