Russia must say and establish this possition, because if Russia ever wants to retake old areas in the future, this must be their view now and consistantly in the future.
Years from now, we might see Russia trying to retake old coutries they had before.
This may be a little wake up call to us all regarding Russia.
Does Russia understand that China also claims (on good historical grounds) a very large chunk of the Russian far east?
