DeLay Pledges Contempt Charge for Terri Judge

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay pledged Friday to hold Florida state judge George Greer in contempt of Congress for ignoring a congressional subpoena for Terri Schiavo's testimony, saying, "No little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress."

"The Congress will pursue this, if we have to hold him in contempt of Congress," DeLay told radio host Sean Hannity.

Pressed on whether he intended to hold Judge Greer in contempt, the top Republican told Hannity: "Absolutely, absolutely."

"We will do everything to enforce the power and authority of the Congress and no little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress," he added.

Earlier in the day Judge Greer rebuffed the Schiavo subpoena, telling attorneys in the case, "I have had no cogent reason why the [congressional] committee should intervene." He claimed that the last-minute action on the part of Congress does not nullify years of legal proceedings.

But DeLay told Hannity, "This judge and the Supreme Court of Florida are well known to be liberal judges that have a different worldview and they're imposing their worldview on the law."

The top House leader said that "no sane person" could look at Schiavo and say she's in a persistent vegetative state.

DeLay called a lawyer for Michael Schiavo, who has pressed for years to have his wife starved to death, "the personification of evil."

30Then Jesus answered and said: "A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. 34So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35On the next day, when he departed,[j] he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, "Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.' 36So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?"

37And he said, "He who showed mercy on him."

Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

I'm still waiting for sinkspur to answer my question, but not holding my breath.

It would seem that the belief that there is no insurance, like the belief that Michael Schiavo was offered $10M to walk away, like the belief that Terri had a chemical imbalance, like the belief that she said she'd rather be dead than disabled as she is today, like the belief that Michael loves Terri and is fighting for her rights...it would seem that these and many other notions are based solely on Michael Schiavo's assertions. (And those of his weird, mind-over-aircraft attorney.)

There's no talking to people who consider Michael Schiavo credible, so I'll just stop here.

Let's hope Monday's not too late. Personally, I applaud the heroic effort at this late date, but that's where I'm frustrated and furious...Why did it take this long to kick people into gear? I guess everyone sat around expecting someone else to step in and correct this mess. Personally, I think it's unconscionable that it's come to this. We should never have gotten to the place where the tube was pulled.

If you mean it's God's decision, fine, then let him feed her himself.

Good thing that wasn't your mother's attitude when you were born, huh?

Look, Sinkspur, you took the position that an innocent person should die so that your sense of order was preserved.

Whenever someone does that he or she should expect some level of insult from those who find your position to be mind-numbingly barbaric!

Okay, I will from now on understand that using the valuable technique of hypotheticals in discussions NO LONGER APPLIES to any thread involving Terri.

Thank you for explaining the new rules.

I agree with you. I disagree with the poster who tried to characterize this as a states rights issue.

A subpoena does not negate an order regarding denial of nutrition. I know you don't like it.

Was Beria Jewish?

Why would that be relevant?

He was not a practicing Jew, as he had no moral scruples at all and was responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands and took delight in torture.

How is a judge ignoring a subpoena protecting states rights? The rule of law is people respect the law interpreted by the courts, but if the courts themselves don't respect accepted judicial process why would anyone obey the order of that judge. That judge could have challenged the constitutionality of the subpoenas in the proper forum,IE believe federal court, but the trial judge does not have the right to ignore a subpoena anymore then you or me. He has to get a lawyer and challenge the validity of the subpoenas.

No I am not,e I am questioning your wisdom, your knowldge of the facts surrrounding the case and your faulty interpretation of the courts holdings.

Good night.

A subpoena does not negate an order regarding denial of nutrition.

Of course it does as that order interferes with the capability of the subpoenaed witness to appear and give testimony with a clear mind.

I know you don't like it.

And I know you love it; you want to see this innocent woman starved to death.

He wants to ban them from politics and ban their religious beliefs from the public square. That makes him a Bolshevik scumbag. He is no different from the obstructionist Dims who keep Catholic judges off the bench because of their religious beliefs. He stands with the forces of the Godless left against Christianity, including his own Catholic religion.

At least you are honest about your positions, sinspur hides behind a wall of deceit.
