House Majority Leader Tom DeLay pledged Friday to hold Florida state judge George Greer in contempt of Congress for ignoring a congressional subpoena for Terri Schiavo's testimony, saying, "No little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress."
"The Congress will pursue this, if we have to hold him in contempt of Congress," DeLay told radio host Sean Hannity.
Pressed on whether he intended to hold Judge Greer in contempt, the top Republican told Hannity: "Absolutely, absolutely."
"We will do everything to enforce the power and authority of the Congress and no little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress," he added.
Earlier in the day Judge Greer rebuffed the Schiavo subpoena, telling attorneys in the case, "I have had no cogent reason why the [congressional] committee should intervene." He claimed that the last-minute action on the part of Congress does not nullify years of legal proceedings.
But DeLay told Hannity, "This judge and the Supreme Court of Florida are well known to be liberal judges that have a different worldview and they're imposing their worldview on the law."
The top House leader said that "no sane person" could look at Schiavo and say she's in a persistent vegetative state.
DeLay called a lawyer for Michael Schiavo, who has pressed for years to have his wife starved to death, "the personification of evil."
Joe, if you have an argument, let's hear it.
Otherwise, go start a pornography thread. I am immune to insults.
And you know this how?
Just because Felos and Schaivo SAY there's no insurance money? Sure........
Welcome to FR and welcome to the fight for Terri's life.
I don't know people can't understand that once her sentence is carried out, we can't reverse it. We HAVE to error on the side of life.
"NO LITTLE JUDGE SITTING IN A STATE DISTRICT COURT IN FLORIDA IS GOING TO USURP THE AUTHORITY OF CONGRESS."
Or how about saying he didn't care what "her husband thinks?"
Hope not, but I think the State of Florida should have the Health Inspector inspect the hospice where Terry has been condemned to die. The State may have to shut it down for health violations.
Too late for that. The standard cultural leftists, him, SO9, and poohbah, are just continuing their attacks on America's traditional culture. Last time poohbah started cussing at me at every response and sinkspur/SO9 are just too superior to bother with responses.
The facts are that Greer is violating several Florida laws, Terri would starve to death when the feeding tube is removed only because Greer has illegally and immorally prohibited anyone from feeding her by mouth, and Michael the adulterous husband is remaining married to Terri only so that he can see her dead.
All in all the same old Stalinist murder squad at work with the same old nihilistic polemics and circular logic, high grade BS, etc.
In cases like this, I take so much comfort knowing that God sends such people to hell for all eternity.
The bill in FL will be stricken by the Supreme Court of FL as unconstitutional if they manage to get it through the Senate. They would have to amend the constitution some way in order to get it past their higher court judges and it's way too late for that. The bill passed in the US senate does not move this case away from Greer. The one in the House puts it into the federal courts and takes it away from Greer. When I found out what they were working on, I knew it was not going to do Terri any good. If they can get the House bill through the Senate (unlikely, too many Rinos and Democrats against it) and signed by the President, then Terri has a reprieve, but even then the federal court judges have so many liberals on the bench, it's just a shot. Her only chance is if the President would send federal marshals to take her into custody or if Jeb would send the state police, but neither one is happening or eve being discussed as far as I can tell.
Sinkspur said, "There's no insurance money." My question stands. How does anyone know this?

Legally, we can. If Michael had done that, Terri would be with her parents, and we would be arguing over SpongeBob Square Pants tonight.
But they didn't violate the separation of powers principle by issuing that ruling. They gave an ultimatum.
There is a difference.
Because it is murder. It is that simple. It should be the government that sets laws that defend against a person taking an other life, even if you do not see the value of that life.
Do you want the government to stop the tens of thousands of times a year it happens? Do you want the government to force those people to live? How far are you willing to go to force families to keep loved ones alive who want to die?
SO9
The House did find time to hold hearings on steriods in major league baseball based on Jose Canseco's book, though. However, the House and Senate couldn't stay in session on Friday to get legislation passed--although I'd rather see this done by the state of Florida.
Wasn't Elian kidnapped at gunpoint on a Palm Sunday?
As do I; hopefully, they'll get a taste of their medicine.
That is a rather over-wrought post. I don't agree with it. Do you think I am a fanatic fundamentalist nutter type?
Take the beam out of your own eye, Pharisee. Aren't you glad you're not like the rest of men?
That's where we need a full blown investigation about this. There is definitely something weird here if the husband of a handicapped woman sorely wants her to die and make sure her body gets cremated immediately the death so that no autopsy can get done.
I am posting on the reality of the situation. Michael has a mistress and two children by her. He DOES NOT LOVE TERRI and does not have her best interests in mind. Your hypotheticals are about YOU not about HER.
No, it was early on a Saturday morning, possibly before Easter, or possibly before Palm Sunday, 2000.
