At his news conference on Wednesday, President Bush declined an invitation to claim vindication for his policy of spreading democracy in the Middle East. After two years of attacks on him as a historical illiterate pursuing the childish fantasy of Middle East democracy, he was entitled to claim a bit of credit. Yet he declined, partly out of modesty (as with Ronald Reagan, one of the secrets of his political success), and partly because he has learned the perils of declaring any mission accomplished.

Man, I love Charles Krauthammer. He manages to keep his head when dealing with idiots, which is an ability I rarely display.
I normally agree with just about everything Mr. Krauthammer says, but he's off base with this aircraft carrier implication.
Charles K. knows how to cut through the fog.
THANK YOU GEORGE W. BUSH INDEED ! WE LUVYA DUBYA ! And I hate liberals !
Sweet words from "the Hammer".
I love Krauthammer too. I first saw him on Fox news Sunday and was blown away.
Why is he off base? The war in Iraq is only one facet of the war against terrorism. It might be 100 years before that war is won.
"shame?"
heck, liberals don't even know how to spell it! LOL
Cowboy bump !
Charles will be remember as one of the greatest men of out time.
Because Charles K. is apparently buying into the accusation that during President Bush's appearance on the aircraft carrier the "Mission Accomplished" banner signified that the war in Iraq was over. But if you read his speech, Dubya says plainly "The mission continues..."
He practiced medicine for three years as a resident and then chief resident in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1978, he quit medical practice, came to Washington to direct planning in psychiatric research for the Carter administration, and began contributing articles to The New Republic. During the presidential campaign of 1980, he served as a speechwriter to Vice President Walter Mondale. He joined The New Republic as a writer and editor in 1980. He lives in suburban Washington with his wife, Robyn, an artist, and their son.
When did this guy become conservative?
Charles is the rarest of rare individuals. He possesses a rational mind and the calm that surrounds the certain knowledge that your cause is just. We would be less without him.
As an advocate of that notion of democratic revolution, I am not surprised that the opposing view was proved false. I am only surprised it was proved false so quickly.

I am a great fan of Mr. Krauthammer. His logic and reason is exceeded only by his insight. Actually the radical left has become so diffused in their blind criticism of their conservative opponents, that they are most frequently wrong about anything they say and do. This should not have been a suprise to Charles...just go back to the Reagan years, when the radical leftists were accusing him of everyting under the sun, and of being wrong about everything -- problem was HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT HIS MAJOR POINTS AND PURSUITS. The libs have continued their psychopathic pursuit of "anti-everything" right or wrong -- it is NOW their whole political platform, the constant criticism of everything from their opposition. They really have nothing else.
You've gotta hand it to Krauthammer, he knows how to nail the left where it hurts.
Sooner or later they see the light.
I think Krauthammer is only commenting about the media opportunities the "Mission Accomplished" banner provided for opponents of President Bush.
This is also why, even if we have proof postive than Binny is pushing up daisies, we should NEVER announce the fact. Simpletons and the 5th column media would beat the "Why are we still fighting poor Muslims? The bad guy is dead" drum to a deafening crescendo.
