Sometime in the 1960s there arose a new homegrown distrust of the United States, followed by an erosion of faith in the values of the West. Perhaps the culprit was the fiasco in Vietnam or the rise of a trendy multiculturalism that followed from it.
Our schools often insisted that all cultures were to be roughly the same. History devolved more into melodrama than tragedy. America was no longer exceptional -- and thus in no position to criticize a Cuba as undemocratic or condemn the Iranian mullahs as murderously theocratic.
The enormous wealth and leisure that followed from global capitalism and democracy insulated us -- creating an unreality about the sources of our privilege and naivete about why life was so bad outside our shores.
Consequently, some utopian elites forgot the free-market origins of their own riches and why they had the freedom and leisure to be so censorious of their own culture.

And perhaps the culprit was all the leftist (socialist) teachers, ministers, priests, that came out of ultra leftist universities and seminaries, and who warped our youth to think those with wealth and talent are evil and selfish.
That's better.

"Have you noticed Bush is pulling no punches. He is nominating "men" to important positions. Starting with the no-nonsense Condoleeza Rice as his pincher force of diplomacy. There will be no lack of communications any more. She is strong, loyal, dedicated and an American, proud of America, and not beholden to the wimpy failures at whose feet the left worships.
Then comes John Bolton at the UN. What a pick. He will not bow to the will of the appeasing containers nor support the many totalitarian states in the UN. He is a known "man" willing to disclose the inept, neutered, inefficient and ineffective puddle on the Hudson known as the UN. Wait until John sinks his teeth into Kofi's posterior on the oil-for-food defalcation and fraud. Fire for all those gassers.
Now he appoints Paul Wolfowitz, a "made man" to head the World Bank. What a move. Paul "Democracy First" Wolfowitz is one hated neo-con who was partly responsible for the conversion of the Middle East into a coming puddle of Democracy. Almost single-handedly Paul waged Bush's war of ideas that man wants to be free. Now the World Bank doles out funds to countries. Paul will see to it they are on their way to democracy. That hasn't been the rule. The bank has never had an annual loss in its many years. Paul will improve on that record.
And Bush still has Cheney, Rumsfeld and the rest of his "men" in reserve. And what have we got on the left? A traitor in Kerry. A murderer in Kennedy. A screaming loon in Dean. A wimp like Bayh, A catatonic Hillary in search of a soul. A boob like Boxer. Bed-sheet Byrd. And Clinton's impressive ship of fools including Madeline Albright, Sandy Berger and Al Gore.
But now it is a new dawn. It is a new day. Strong "men" are being elevated everywhere. Not a chink in the armor. And can you guess who the strongest, guttiest visionary is. None other than that "dumb cowboy" that someday will be known for what he has always been, "the strongest rung on the ladder".
