The Ukrainians fielded an SS division, and maintained armed resistance to Soviet Russian up to the mid-50s.
They could have fielded a lot more soldiers but Hitler didn't want them.
So? Kosovar Serbs fought Nazis, while Albanian Muslims collaborated. We have seen which side the EU, as well as our own previous administration, cast their lot with. Is it just me, or do I sense a growing need for "Progressives" to create a greater illusion of separation from the "Other White Totalitarianism?" The old "call them right wing despite reams of documentation to the contrary" doesn't seem to be working so well anymore.
Was that Vlasov's contingent?
When I go to bignewsnetwork.com, the story shows up with a picture of prisoners in Afghanistan. The text is about Russia and Latvia, though.
He was part of it. I think he was Russian.
Well, I guess I'll have to mark this dump off my vcation itinerary.
You are failry new here. Perhaps nobody told you yet, but support to Nazism is not welcome on FR.
In case you do not know, 200,000 Americans have died to stop Nazi menace.
A unit of the 15th Latvian SS Division marching in the city of Riga, summer 1943. Their Latvian arm flashes can be seen on their right hand sleeves. Huge numbers of Latvians volunteered for the German war effort against the Soviet Union - eventually some 148,000 Latvian men and women volunteered for all kinds of services, from military units to labor to auxiliary police units. This amounted to just over 12 percent of the entire Latvian population - the most any nation can spare in times of war.
They also provided 50% of the concentration camp guards. There's a big difference between serving as a native auxillery for the Wehremacht or as a partisan force and being part of the Waffen SS, the Nazi parties own field formations.
Yeah and you should learn to read better. I was not supporting the Nazi's but attacking the communists. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones and that is what the Russians were/are doing.
Vlasov was a seperate structure and not part of the Nazi Waffen SS. The Wehremact, against direct orders of the Nazis, created Vlasov's formations. Eastern Slavs were untermensch (Czechs and western Ukraine were to be Germanized).
Actually it was around 440,000 (to include the Pacific theater).
Yup, 15th Latvian SS Division, fine heroes of the war, each and everyone of them. /sarcasm
But hay, Latvia is part of the EU now, where Jew and Russian hatred are the call of the day. It's 1933 all over again, even the employment numbers are the same.
Well, when you see the former NKVD soldiers marching through Red Square to cheering crowds, you can comment on glass houses. So far, it's Latvia and her nazi SS boys on display. Just like we paid no attention when Croatia did the same thing, then came the massacres of Serbs in Krina. 1940 all over again.
Hey bud, time to wake up. I guess you're new here and didn't see the story about a month or two ago where Putin himself decorated a Russian partisan who fought against one of the Baltic states and in the process murdered 8 civilians, including one pregnant woman (posted on FR). So yeah, we crossed the threshold of Russians honoring war criminals a while ago. Don't thank me for bringing you up to speed my friend, this one is on me.
You sir are low. Because I detest the Communist you immediately try to portray me as some sort of Nazi. The fact is, and I know facts are something people like you find hard to digest, that Nazism was destroyed nearly 60 years ago and posses NO threat to the west. Communism on the other hand is alive and kicking in Europe, in Russia and in our universities. Communism, and its bastard brother socialism, has destroyed much of our culture, Nazism has not. Why does it bother you that I mention the number of dead at the hands of communism?
