New York (dpa) - U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan on Wednesday appointed American diplomat Erskine Bowles to assist former U.S. President Bill Clinton in collecting aid for the victims of the December 26 Indian Ocean tsunami.

Clinton has accepted Annan's offer to become the U.N. special envoy for tsunami recovery in addition to partnering with fellow former U.S. president George Bush to raise private funds in the United States for tsunami victims.

Bowles, who served during Clinton's term in office as his chief of staff, will now serve as Clinton's deputy special envoy.

His first chore will be to attend a meeting of the Asian Development Bank Friday in Manila and visit Asian countries before reporting to Clinton so the latter can organize a conference in New York at a later date to discuss the U.N. relief effort.

A Boxing Day undersea earthquake generated the tsunami, which killed more than 200,000 people in 12 Indian Ocean countries. The tsunami caused widespread destruction in many countries in addition to the deaths.

Now, are you suggesting that Slick is incapable of doing a selfless act, and is instead working to funnel Tsunami-relief contracts to companies that have given him or his cronies kickbacks?

What on Earth would ever give you this idea?

More evidence, methinks, that Clinton is not recovering as nicely as the MSM/Clintons would have us believe. Bowles is going to end up doing Clinton's job b/c Bubba's not up to it.

Just interesting---

There's billions to be ripped off the Tsunami relief fund, and nobody but UN hacks to monitor the money. If clinton and bowles can't manage to rake off some of it while getting some great photo-ops, they're stupider than I think.

I hope it warms the hearts of all those Freepers who donated to think that their money is probably paying their travel expenses.

LOL, more pictures of him with Clinton won't help him in NC! Besides, he's been rejected twice in a row now. I can't believe the Democrats let him lose TWO open senate races for them!

Exactly. How much of that relief money will end up in Hillary's 2008 campaign coffers?

Letting Bill Clinton have status at the United Nations
is just as scary as when people who say "Go ahead, Run Hillary
in 2008!"

WHY takes chances???

Would these people let Michael Jackson babysit
their children???

Well, don't trust CLINTONS either!

Bad eggs are bad eggs.
