Some white students at a South Jersey Catholic school walked out of classes Tuesday in protest over a speech by the New Jersey Secretary of State Regina Thomas.
Tensions have been building up at Paul VI High School since Thomas' speech on racial justice last week.

"You are very much misguided my friend."
Enlighten me!
well, if odoso meant "racism in-toto" then, yes, that is an error. racial bigotry is alive and well everywhere I have lived or visited, from all groups and against all groups.
however, if odoso meant "tolerated, legal, institutionalized racism" then... there is some merit in that position.
"So it is easy for me to rise above these situations and recognise that ignorance is a very INDIVIDUAL thing."
So is using the color of one's skin to gain an advantage.
California; Oakland area, to be precise.
suggestion: be polite.
cyborg is not one with whom to trifle, and she has thus far dealt kindly with you.
Yikes! This woman is New Jersey Secretary of State??!! I would have walked out, too. How can she be speaking anywhere, let alone a Catholic school, with inciteful speech like that? Where is the outcry of hate speech? And it's odd that there seems to be little mention of her actual remarks, let alone any quote by her. And, for the record, the KKK went after Catholics most viciously, as well as African Americans.
Everyone's a little prejudiced, but there are few hardcore racists other than the bottom of society. I heard white folks expressing racist attitudes when I was growing up in New York in the 1980s, just as I heard blacks and Asians expressing them as well.
Not all immigrants are racist. Which immigrant groups are are you referring to? And how many black people do you know? You don't think there's white racism, because you're white aren't you? Racism is a very subjective thing.
The NJ SOS was waaayyyyyy off base with that speech and should apologize to the students. It sounds to me as though the students were getting along just fine until this leftist idiot showed up and began spewing her agenda.
After the apology, she should be fired and sent to Abu Ghraib . . . . .
Just kidding. Panties-on-the-head-torture is a crime against leftists. College students call it hazing!
Hmmm...well I've heard stories about that place, so I'll take your word for it. Pretty sad though.
And that person knows someone who knows Kevin Bacon! Not only that, but the third strikeout at Fenway Park is always signified by a backwards K so that there won't be a riot.
"The closest your fathers would ever know about injustice is if the dealer told them that the Mercedes they wanted was sold to someone else."
Wow. Alrighty, then...
I only know what's in the article and the videos. One video mentions she said something like "white folks are ignorant."
So, everything was going along pretty well until this person who is "passionate about diversity" went in and screwed it up.
They just can't leave well enough alone can they?
I would have walked out (or maybe stayed to heckle her).
I do not take to crap like this very well. I'm glad I was not there.
That's a mighty big brush that you are painting with.
I think people try to use the words racism, discrimmination and prejudice interchangeably. There are all really different things. As I said before :
Racism it hating someone due to their race.
Prejudice is pre-judging someone you don't know ( we all do that)
Discrimmination is making a difference in treament of others on a basis othe than indiviual merit.
A 'nun', no less. How very sad. Gee, the new 'Catholicism' is sooo working well.
oh, you noticed that as well?
thanks for calling him on it - you saved me the trouble, and did so more politely than I found myself able to do.
I'm not shocked at all that the liberal rats would use the 'turnabout' is fair play option as far as racial preferences is concerned.
