TIPSY License Plate Owner Pulled Over For Drunken Driving
POSTED: 8:45 am EST March 16, 2005
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Having a vanity plate the reads "TIPSY" may not be such a good idea after all.
Josiah Johnson, of Argusville, N.D., is in trouble for drunken driving. He figures his TIPSY plate might have tipped off the deputy who busted him.
Police say Johnson had a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit after he left a sports bar in Moorhead.
Johnson said the TIPSY plate was meant to describe the way an old Jeep rode, and he kept the plate when he got a Chevy Silverado. Johnson said he has learned his lesson and will never drink and drive again.

Yeah, sure. It was the license plate. I'm sure his driving was fine, despite his BA level.

His driving was just fine. . .it was the pedestrians on the sidewalk that kept getting in the way.

More like just dumb. Like those bumper stickers that say "If you don't like the way I drive, stay off the sidewalk." Or "Don't drink & drive - you may hit a bump and spill your drink."
What do you say to the family of someone you kill if you should somehow have an accident that was truly out of your control even if you were in perfect control.

I recall yet the genuine horror movies I saw in Drivers' Ed circa mid-70s....

Reminds me of a guy I knew years ago. Had a vanity tag reading 6PK2GO.

There's a relatively famous package (liquor) store on Martha's Vineyard called "Al's Pals". I've had a sticker from there on a window of my vehicles for over 30 years. I think I'll take it off.

There was a guy named Vernon Boozer who ran for office around here several years ago - The only thing you could read on his bumper stickers at a range of more than two feet was "BOOZER." I politely declined to put one on my car.

My ND vanity plate is "BE FREE." I guess that means the SCOTUS can pull me over and imprison me for free speech.
