Expressing yourself is not part of your job

The kid at the checkout counter obviously had other career plans.

His arms were covered with thick, black Celtic tattoos, designed like the crosses you might see atop ancient gravestones in the British isles. On his index finger, he wore a long, chrome implement of some sort, an articulated armored glove that looked like either a prop from an all-night Dungeons and Dragons tournament or a leftover from Stevie Nicks' fall collection.

As he began pulling items on the electronic conveyor belt toward the scanner at his cash register, he absent-mindedly poked me in the wrist with his miniature lance, looking up at me sheepishly as he half-mumbled an apology.

"Yo, junior," I addressed him. "Could you maybe save your amateur proctology school training and all its fabulous tools until maybe after you've finished checking out our groceries?"

"The older I get, the simpler human behaviour becomes. Men want sex, women want men to want them for sex. Tada, human behaviour in a nutshell. All else can be derived from that nugget."

So self respect, class, and intelligence don't count at all?

So, I guess you would hire Micheal Moore..to be your door greeter.

Based on appearance? Sure, why not. Many fat people are pleasant and . . . jolly. : ) His poor attitude and smart aleckness has nothing to do with his appearance.

I've never understood the lure of tatoos - especially on women.

Ditto

I personally find it somewhat comforting to see people in these jobs exhibiting their bad taste. Just means less competition for the "real" jobs.

I was in a "Books-a-Million" bookstore in Colonial Heights, VA a few weeks ago. It was comical to see the heavily tatooed freak with all the body piercings - including some disgusting looking fang thing run loosely through a large piercing in his lower lip that he kept wiggling with his tongue - trying to help an elderly woman who was trying to decide between different versions of the Bible. I could tell just how badly tortured he was by the whole exchange, but I guess he wanted to keep his job. He's lucky too. I'm just the kind of uptight and mean Republican that would have complained loudly if he had made a single mis-step in serving that woman. Heck, if his manager had been nearby I might have complained anyway just on general principles. I hope he gets an infection - a very painful one - one requiring a hospital stay and possibly amputation.

"Some of the kids I went to Grad school with were heavily tattooed. The guys had to wear long sleeves and the girls with the ankle tats had to wear dark stockings to cover them."

Amateurs! One of the guys I bunked with (don't think anything funny) had a tat of the USS Constitution in full sail on his chest. That had to hurt.

Those young people working at Hot Topics in the mall, with black fingernails and lipstick, and day-glo orange hair, in combat boots with chains and other hardware dripping from their flesh and clothing--they could be kindred souls?
Maybe I'll stop by and see about hanging one of my many framed photos of our handsome, debonaire president, George W. Bush in their front window.

Next time anyone sees a person with "tribal" tattoos, ask them "what tribe are those from?" Watch their face turn red. They have mucked up their body for non existent tribe.

Like I said, some of them might surprise you. Check out www.conservativepunk.com for a good example.

I worked with a guy years ago who had a huge tat of an eagle with fully spread wings on his chest. He had it done in one session. Ow!

We have promised Jax she can have her ears pierced..........I'm sending hubby to take her. I put up with enough of that when she was an infant and needed shots.........I can not handle it.....even on someone else.

After viewing some posts in 'Speak Out' at the site you provided, I stand corrected. Not all punks are . . . punks. I suppose the dangers of steretyping illustrated and what distinguishes us from lower primates. And Democrats.
