Action Alert: War, baseball & national ID

March 14, 2005

Tomorrow evening or Wednesday morning the U.S. House will vote on the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Defense, the Global War on Terror, and Tsunami Relief -- all rolled into one awful bill: H.R. 1268. We urge a "no" vote because of what the bill contains tonight. (We can only imagine what will be added during the next 24 hours when members' pet projects are funded to buy those members' votes.)

At $87.5 billion, it will be the second largest supplemental appropriations bill in the history of the world (and also of the United States); second only to the one last year. The funds will be considered "emergency" so they can ignore spending caps and the billions in new spending won’t need to be offset by reducing spending elsewhere.

Here is a partial list: 1. $656 million for tsunami relief. 2. $94 million for Darfur. 3. $150 million for food aid; most to Liberia and Sudan. 4. $580 million for peacekeeping; most for Sudan. 5. $582 million to build a new American embassy in Iraq. 6. $76 million to build a new airport in Kuwait. 7. $257 million for counter drug efforts in Afghanistan. 8. $372 million for health, reconstruction and alternative development programs to help farmers stop raising poppy. 9. $200 million in economic aid for the Palestinians. 10. $150 million for Pakistan. 11. $200 million for Jordan. 12. $34 million for Ukraine. 13. $40 million for FBI personnel in Iraq.

This emergency wartime bill will also allow the District of Columbia to use taxpayers' funds to build a new baseball stadium. Talk about an "emergency!"

What about the national ID? Well, it's not official at this moment, but the national ID bill (H.R. 418) that the House recently passed will likely be added at the last minute; thereby avoiding a separate vote by the U.S. Senate.

Yes, oppose this pork-laden emergency wartime bill because it includes the national ID, or because it clears the way for a taxpayer-financed baseball stadium, or whatever else might be added at the last minute...and you will be charged with "not supporting our troops."

Tell your U.S. representative to vote against this extortion in the name of "patriotism" and vote "no" on H.R. 1268 because you do support our troops, and don't support the billions of dollars of pork.

RFID, Verichip, mark of the beast, etc. What can I say except that we must stop this from becoming widespread.

Are you familiar with the Stop RFID (C.A.S.P.I.A.N.) website? If not the url is www.spychips.com

A lot of people seem to favor the proposed consumption tax, but I understand there's a caveat to it in that you'll make your purchases using an I.D. card. Using the information stored on your I.D. card the powers that be can determine if your income is low enough that you'll receive a refund for some of the tax you've paid on purchases. Because of this and other ramifications of the consumption tax I urge you to oppose it. Its just another step in Big Brother's march to spy on you and control you.

By the way, thanks for your clever graphics.

There are a several problems with the various consumption taxes. First, the idea that a federal agency the size of the IRS is simply going to vaporize is silly. Second, the consumption tax proposals always refer to a tax on new goods AND SERVICES. What that means is that anyone who works for himself (including a babysitter) will then have their own personal IRS agent. Third, let's say I fix computers for a living out of my garage. That's a "service" isn't it? If I have to report what I take in in order to pay tax on it, isn't that just a bunch of corporate wage earners palming off their IRS headache on me? Isn't that just a socialist mob mentality that there are more of them and they want rid of their headache so screw the guy who has the nerve to work for himself? Fourth, *what exactly* are the consumption koolaid drinkers going to do when they don't get exactly what they want? Ever heard any of them even admit the possibility? Fifth, which relates to your tracking suggestion, the very concept of a "prebate" involves tracking or filing. I thought the idea was to get rid of an intrusive tax collection system. Guess NOT. Finally, the goal here is to get everybody figuratively tattooed with a number (nobody has yet been able to explain to me what possible authority govt has to require that) then tie that number to plastic fiat currency/travel/gun permits, then turn off your plastic when you have an overdue parking ticket so you'll come groveling to your government master to have your life turned back on. Here's what's next:

Interesting. In that entire list, I don't see one Constitutional use for the money being wasted this time. But I'm sure 'conservatives' throughout both houses will vote for it. What was the use for 'winning back the Senate' again?

Why, to keep the big-spending liberals out of power, of course!

Right, I forgot...Now if you'll excuse me I've got to get back to work and make some donation money. Still have a few months left to work off my government 'contribution' to pay for small spending healthcare and education plans foisted upon us by the smaller government party.

Can't wait until these plans kick in though. Won't be working for myself until August at this rate...
