Just two days after moving into her Duluth apartment, Ashley Smith is up late unpacking.
At about 2 a.m. Saturday the 26-year-old runs out of cigarettes and heads to a local convenience store to buy a pack.
When she returns, she sees a man in a truck was waiting outside her door. She had seen the man earlier but didn't think much of it.
She gets out of her car and shuts the door.
She hears the door on the truck close at about the same time. Fear rises in her.
Holding her key in her hand, she makes her way to her front door. As she slides her key into the lock, she turns to see the man from the truck. She screams. He pokes a gun into her ribs.
"Stop screaming," he demands. "I won't hurt you if you stop screaming."
She fears the worst that she will be raped and killed.
"Do you know who I am?" he asks.
He is wearing a dark blazer beneath a red ski parka but no shirt. He has a new UGA cap on his head.
She doesn't know him.
He removes the cap, showing his shaved head.
"Now do you know who I am?" he asks again.
She recognizes him. She begins to tremble with fear.
"I won't hurt you," he tells her reassuringly.

I was unable to find the url for that whole story at The Atlantic Journal-Constitution. I hope all at Free Republic can read this entire incredible story on its own thread somehow.
Thanks.
We have to sign in to obtain the rest of the story. Shucks!
A double or reverse 'Stockholm Syndrome' may have taken place.

"My husband died four years ago, and I told him if he hurt me my little girl wouldn't have a mommy or a daddy," Smith said. "I asked him why he chose me, and he said he didn't know. But after we began to talk, he said that I was an angel and that he was lost and God led him right to me."

I agree.. I think she saved more than a few lives..everyhting in his behavoral profile indicated he would try for "death by cop"
This is definitely going to be a movie, and it should be.
"I feel like I'm a warrior. The people of my color have gone through a lot."
eeeesh
CNN, FOX and PMS-NBC have all contacted me for interviews. I witnessed the news coverage on TV
and do I have a story to tell...................duh?
I'll say one thing, if this girl has nothing else to do or no other calling, Ms. Smith could consider pursuing a career as a hostage negotiator. She seems to be the best.
She was amazingly level headed--she's been through more in her 26 years than most of us would dread to experience in a lifetime.
....so...does this woman get the $65,000 reward?......
SHE BETTER GET THE REWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just heard her on Fox..her daughter, fortunately, was at a church camp this past weekend
Yet there are some on another thread right now who think her story smells. They don't seem to want to believe her. If you wish to see that, I'd direct you.
I'm amazed that people cannot sense goodness when they see it.

I missed it. How did she come off?
I don't think it improper to want to verify her story. The guy, after all, murdered four people. It's a nice story and I think she is real, but I want to trust but verify. She basically said God wanted him to escape the courthouse so he could see the light. Tell that to the custom agent's widow.
I just saw that thread as well- I can only think many folks haven't had the chance to hear the entire interview with her yet. I was cynical myself- til I heard the whole interview. She's amazing.
