I was unable to find the url for that whole story at The Atlantic Journal-Constitution. I hope all at Free Republic can read this entire incredible story on its own thread somehow.
Thanks.

When Ashley Smith was in her car following Nichols as he ditched the stolen truck, she could have easily just disconnected from him then. However, she was fearful that Nichols would kill others. This is an incredible woman.
A double or reverse 'Stockholm Syndrome' may have taken place.
****
"My husband died four years ago, and I told him if he hurt me my little girl wouldn't have a mommy or a daddy," Smith said. "I asked him why he chose me, and he said he didn't know. But after we began to talk, he said that I was an angel and that he was lost and God led him right to me."

There's calamity ahead. All around liberal/anti-God/jaded Hollywood, dozens of network producers and screenwriters are petulantly scampering around attempting to figure out how to produce a movie based on Ashley Smith's incredibly moving story without having to include all those pesky 'God references'.
This is definitely going to be a movie, and it should be.

He offers her some faint explanation maybe his first to account to anyone of how he had spent this long day. "I feel like I'm a warrior. The people of my color have gone through a lot."

Yes, he said he felt like a "soldier". He's one conflicted guy.
I'll say one thing, if this girl has nothing else to do or no other calling, Ms. Smith could consider pursuing a career as a hostage negotiator. She seems to be the best.

She was amazingly level headed--she's been through more in her 26 years than most of us would dread to experience in a lifetime.

I'm amazed that people cannot sense goodness when they see it.

I don't think it improper to want to verify her story. The guy, after all, murdered four people. It's a nice story and I think she is real, but I want to trust but verify. She basically said God wanted him to escape the courthouse so he could see the light. Tell that to the custom agent's widow.
To: beyond the sea
I just saw that thread as well- I can only think many folks haven't had the chance to hear the entire interview with her yet. I was cynical myself- til I heard the whole interview. She's amazing.
